I cant send compresse dpictures through Hotmail anymore: I just bought a brand new Dell with Windows Vista & IE 8. In Hotmail, when I click on "Attach" I no longer get a choice of "FILE or PHOTO", but it opens "My DOcuments" folder directly. When I checked  "Tools - Manage Add-Ons", I don't have the "Photo Upload " tool.

Hello abkara,

Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Windows Vista Community site.

Try following the step in this article:

Attaching pictures to a Microsoft Hotmail e-mail

To attach pictures in Hotmail, follow the below steps.

  1. Open your Hotmail account.
  2. Click the New Message link.
  3. Click the Attach and then File link.
  4. Click the Browse button and browse to the image you wish to attach. Keep in mind that you cannot select multiple files at once. However, you can individually add each of the images or attachments you wish to add.
  5. Click Ok or OK and Attach Another if you wish to do more than one image.

If attached successfully, you should see a link with the attachment names in your e-mail. Once you're ready to send the message, click the Send button.

Viewing pictures in a Microsoft Hotmail e-mail

Keep in mind that not all e-mails will have attached pictures in them. You can determine if an e-mail has an attachment by looking for a paperclip icon in the listing of e-mails you have. However, some messages are also sent in HTML format, which means images can be included without being attachments.

To view the pictures in the e-mail, open the e-mail and click the view or download link to view the image. Also, for many commonly known images, it may already be shown in the e-mail without having to open it

This should resolve your problem.

Let us know if these steps resolve your problem.  I hope the information is useful.

Regards,

Anthony

I have since found out how to attached compressed photos on hotmail: as follows

Many users of Windows Live Hotmail are having real problems to use image compression tool and can be attached to e-mail. This tool uses an activeX control, it’s necessary to install Internet Explorer to select pictures or images and upload them to the Hotmail server.

When you start a new e-mail message and access the photo menu> send compressed photos, it asks us to install the control of Microsoft ActiveX Windows Live Experience.

We choose to install this add-in for all users of the computer. If user account control window appears, click continue. Runs link add-on for Internet Explorer after you installed control, this message appears in the Internet Explorer information bar: "Internet Explorer has blocked using not secure an ActiveX control on this site."Is possible that this page does not correctly display.

This is due to security settings enhanced Internet Explorer prevents running controls on your computer. It is necessary to change, thus the browser security settings: Menu Tools>Internet Options>Security >Internet zone.

    * Click the custom level button

    * Search controls and plug-ins ActiveX and within it, the option to initialize and generate script ActiveX controls not marked as safe for scripting level. The selected option is normally disable (recommended)

    * Mark the prompt option >Push the OK button & push again OK> We closed the session of Hotmail and back it to start.

Now, when consent at the page and pulsemos on the photos menu>send compressed photos, see us a new Internet Explorer security message

We must press"Yes" to use the tool and attach images compressed to the Hotmail e-mail

I have tried it and it works - Yes!!!!!

Thanks very much for this answer scottiebigal - just followed your clear instructions and yes - it now works.  Great - what a relief!  The only slightly disquieting thing is - is it now unsafe, as it states?

Scottiebigal - I have also followed your instruction and yes, your 'fix' works. But how about the 'unsafe' threat - is it serious???

Sabehamb - I also worry about the 'safety' issue. Hopefully somebody will reassure us... . It is a relief that the upload tool works - but are we going to pay a high price for it one day?
