LaCie Hard Drive not recognized by Windows 7

I have a LaCie external USB hard drive (formatted FAT32) that shows up as a device in the control panel but does not appear as a drive or other device in the Windows Explorer.

The drive contains my music library. Any advice on how to find/access this drive?

Hi,

Do you see any yellow\red exclamation mark in device manager?

I would suggest you to open Disc management and check if the drive is detected there, here are the steps:

1. 1. Open Computer Management by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, clicking Administrative Tools, and then double-clicking Computer Management. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

2. 2. In the left pane, click Disk Management.

If it the hard drive recognizes in the disc management and if there is no drive letter assigned, I would suggest you right click on the drive and assign a drive letter and check if it helps:

1. 1. Right-click the drive to change, and then click Change Drive Letter and Paths.

2. 2. Do one of the following:

· To assign a drive letter if one has not already been assigned, click Add, click the letter that you want to use, and then click OK.

· To change a drive letter, click Change, click Assign the following drive letter, click the letter that you want to use, and then click OK.

· To remove a drive letter, click Remove, and then click Yes to confirm that you want to remove it.

i have the same problem with LaCie Hard Drive not recognized by Windows 7

My LaCie external USB hard drive( design neil poulton) part number 1278905066090QL when i connect to my computer is no recognized

i have the exact same issue., I cannot see the external hard drive on the disc management screen, there are only the internal drive partitions.

i there was any other information to help me

I have a similar problem with my LaCie little disk. When I connect it to my front panel USB ports, the disk is not recogniced in three out of four USB ports. It works with the forth however... so my problem is somehow related to the USB ports. However, the ports appear similar to my USB memory sticks, strange. I opened up my computer case but did not see any obvious differences with the wiring to the motherboard, hard to tell in the crowded environment though.

I'm having a similar problem with my LaCie Quadra hooked to Windows XP desktop via USB. Device Manager says device is working properly. The Disk Management util sees the drive in position Disk 1 (Disk 0 is the internal hard drive) but will not allow a drive letter assignment. This option is greyed out when right-clicking the device. Any suggestions? TIA

I have been in touch with LaCie for weeks to try and resolve this problem and although they have suggested very complicated processes, they have not worked. Yours did - thank you very much.

I followed all instructions and eventually discovered that the issue was the Power adapter! Although the unit appeared to power up there was an issue with the adapter, they had another machine tried the adapter and all worked okay!
