LaCie Hard Drive not recognized by Windows 7

I have a LaCie external USB hard drive (formatted FAT32) that shows up as a device in the control panel but does not appear as a drive or other device in the Windows Explorer.

The drive contains my music library. Any advice on how to find/access this drive?

Hi,

Do you see any yellow\red exclamation mark in device manager?

I would suggest you to open Disc management and check if the drive is detected there, here are the steps:

1. 1. Open Computer Management by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, clicking Administrative Tools, and then double-clicking Computer Management. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

2. 2. In the left pane, click Disk Management.

If it the hard drive recognizes in the disc management and if there is no drive letter assigned, I would suggest you right click on the drive and assign a drive letter and check if it helps:

1. 1. Right-click the drive to change, and then click Change Drive Letter and Paths.

2. 2. Do one of the following:

· To assign a drive letter if one has not already been assigned, click Add, click the letter that you want to use, and then click OK.

· To change a drive letter, click Change, click Assign the following drive letter, click the letter that you want to use, and then click OK.

· To remove a drive letter, click Remove, and then click Yes to confirm that you want to remove it.

Thank you. I knew I had to initialize it and format it. I just didn't know where to go for it to be recognized. Took about 3 minutes. Awesome. Keep the good advice coming.

Hi to all.

I found solution, at least for this moment it works for me.

I downloaded free disk manager program: EasyUS partition master 10 free edition. And install it.

It will show all disks, also Lacie.

Click that disk with no name/letter (LaCie) with right button of mouse and choose Change drive letter. Take one that is not used! Remember to Apply the change, up left!

And it works!

I have had the same problem with 2 I have just opened after from having from new a few years ago ( for stocking photo on ), so after reading all the problems every one else are having ! I thought well lets sort this out the easy way, so I opened the cases and took out the hard drives ( Seagate ) by the way nothing to do with Lecie, and I have ordered 2 new W7 USB3 compatible cases, I will put them in the new cases and job done 2 cases £40 a small prise to pay to solve the problem, go on Amazon or Ebay you will find them costs from £12 upto £50+ ish each.

Found out that the LaCie drive I have is formatted using Linux. Downloaded:

OSXFUSE for Mac

and Ext2 Fule Module and drives data appears on a Mac...copied it to a new drive

They also have versions for Windows 7 but I couldn't get this to work. It would see the drive finally! But wanted to format it.
