Xbox 360 Controller plugged to USB with "Play and Charge Kit" does not work

Hello, i've Windows 7 as O.S, and i'm having some problems with my Xbox 360 controllers. When i've bought the play and charge kit for my xbox 360 controller, i heard that it was possible to connect it to te pc in order to play with games for windows live. So, i've started to look for drivers, and i found them in microsoft's hardware official site. I've installed them, then i've restarted my p.c, i plugged in the USB, WIndows recognized the hardware. I thought it was alright. But, even if the hadrware has been recongnized, it doest work. Then I've discovered that "Xbox 360 Accesories 1.2" does't recognize the hardware, and it is not recognized as a gaming Hardware, but as a generic Hadrware.  at that point i've gived up! I've surfed in the internet, trying to find somethig or somemone able to help me, but it was useless. Now i hope you'll be able to solve my problem!

P.S: I've alredy tried to change controller, to change USB port, to change cable, to uninstall and repeat the driver's installation...

Hello TheRick.

Unfortunately this won't work.  The Play and Charge kit only connects up to the actual battery.  The controller still connects over wireless.

You'd need either a wired Xbox 360 controller, or a Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver which will connect to your existing wireless controller.

    hello paul,

    you are correct about the Play and Charge kit not working b/c it conects to the battery, However, the controller does not use the wireless system when pluged in rather bypasses it and uses the wire. thats why when you turn on the xbox 360 via the controler`s guide button when conected it will automaticly turn the xbox .

    In my case, motionjoy driver controller was my problem.

    THE FEW SOLUTIONS, as i have found ((after a couple of my tests) may be:

    -On Windows XP Professional 32bit SP3, this never happens, and always worked OK, for me

    -I have also tried free evaluation version of Windows 8, and - on it - it also works,  no probs

    (downside: interfaces and UI, in the eval. version WIn 8 - you WILL hate, Win7

    has much better ones).

    -On WIndows 7 - it does NOT work: it does not reckognize the hardware, from some reason.

    (maybe - this is the main problem, if you CAN get it to reckognize the hardware, i'm shure it

    would install the appropriate driver by default, as - it should be migrated from XP, to WIn 7).

    My problem in Win 7 (Home Premium 64 bit) was: I can't get to right place (procedure) in Win 7

    to choose "custom device" or so, and to "choose driver myself", and custom install hardware,

    in which process, i guess we can select that it's video-sound-and-game controller, so windows

    will know where to find it. In Win7 , windows doesn't know: WHAT THE DEVICE IS,

    from some reason.

    As far i have tested on WIn7 Home Premium 64 bit. The driver, however exists on official

    Microsoft (micros-not) site, (just search for: "play and charge kit win 7 driver")

    and it's there, but - after downloading, and reboot - it does nothing to fix the problem.

    (so much for the fans of Win7, as i am, and our trust to Micros-not with our money).

    On the positive side, i will not change the Win 7, as: in the future, they just may put the fix,

    with hte appology to customers, so let them know, (which is what we are doing here, as well). (community rocks, don't worry - they so much DO have the people reading the forums).

    Actually, during the time the Play and Charge kit is plugged in the controller's wireless funtion is disabled. It is disabled because it would be using too much power, while wireless, at the same time it is trying to replace it. Which could eventually short out the controller causing it to be unable to be used anymore.

    What? Are you saying that the Play & Charge kit is not Charge and play at the same time? I'm experiencing this issue on my PC. I put the kit in controller and Wireless disables. Is that right?

    Note: I have a Microsoft Wireless Receiver. If I put the kit, the wireless communication stops immediately. And then, I have to synchronize again. Is that right? I've tried all possible drivers. I have Windows 7 on a high-end computer.
