Hello, somehow I have managed to disable the shortcuts for cutting and pasting. I can only do it manually through the menu bar. I cannot Ctrl C or Ctrl V anymore - nothing happens! What have I done? Please help.

Annoying problem if you rely 100% on keyboard shortcuts! I had the same problem and the fix is very easy. You will need to uninstall your keyboard driver and restart your computer and your CTRL keys will function once again. To do this:
1) Click Start
2) Control Panel
3) Printers and Other Hardware
4) Keyboard
5) In the Keyboard Properties window, click Hardware
6) Click Properties
7) Click Driver
8) Click Uninstall, click OK
9) Restart your Computer

Is this only happening in Microsoft Word or does this also occur in other programs like 'Notepad"? I went to Microsoft Word support and am showing commands listed below. Again, if only happening within Word, I would suggest going to site listed.

hallo. thanks for the suggestion. I already try it but still my ctrl does not work. every time i push that button, help application will appear. I'm using window 8
Solution that worked for me just fine. Go to Office button - Word Options - Customize - Keyboard Shortcuts (Customize) you will find this at the bottom than when the new small windows opens just click on RESET ALL YES and use all your keyboard shortcuts again :))
This is the FIRST reply to this topic I raised that is really solving the issue. Although, I had found something else was provoking this in MY SYSTEM. I had a MS STABILITY ANAYLIS tool that when I shut it down and took it off, everything went back to normal and ok: CTL-C, CTRL-V, and IE history that was not maintained began to appear. Obviously some of the tool MS provide, may have good intentions, but are very unstable. The last one I encountered that bothers me is that now IE seem to have an integrated corrector that uses a dictionay based on SYSTEM REGIONAL PARAMETERS. I do not like that and I wouls like to tell that CORRECTOR to use ENGLISh... so far I haven't found the answer to that. I do not understand why MS makes so difficult to find these rather simple things. There should be an option RIGHT INTO WIN OS or WIN IE to select the language of your choice independantly of the REGIONAL PARAMETER setup in the system.
