Hello, somehow I have managed to disable the shortcuts for cutting and pasting. I can only do it manually through the menu bar. I cannot Ctrl C or Ctrl V anymore - nothing happens! What have I done? Please help.

Annoying problem if you rely 100% on keyboard shortcuts! I had the same problem and the fix is very easy. You will need to uninstall your keyboard driver and restart your computer and your CTRL keys will function once again. To do this:
1) Click Start
2) Control Panel
3) Printers and Other Hardware
4) Keyboard
5) In the Keyboard Properties window, click Hardware
6) Click Properties
7) Click Driver
8) Click Uninstall, click OK
9) Restart your Computer

Is this only happening in Microsoft Word or does this also occur in other programs like 'Notepad"? I went to Microsoft Word support and am showing commands listed below. Again, if only happening within Word, I would suggest going to site listed.

I have the same problem, and I followed your suggestions. But when I reached number 7- the "Driver" is in grey and I cannot click on it. What to do??
I tried it and the problem still persists. Copy (Ctrl V) works fine. it's Paste (Ctrl V) that doesn't work -- Nor is it accessible in the drop-down menu (It's greyed out) and I cannot for the life of me figure out why.
This problem is systemwide -- I cannot use Ctrl V at all, not even in Open Office. It's been persisting now for more than a week, but what's really maddening is that I've been unable to find the cause. Without knowing the cause of the problem, I can't fix it.
My computer is a Dell OptiPlex GX 280 with an Intel Pentium 4 processor. My operating system is Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3.
I cannot reinstall the operating system, because I don't have the installation CD. And even if I did, a reinstall would wipe out literally dozens of critical Microsoft security updates, not to mention my Norton anti-virus and Malwarebytes anti-malware software (I have cable Internet, so having those protection programs is absolutely vital to my computer).
I need help with pinpointing the cause of the problem.
My Ctrl A (select all) shortcut was no longer working. After hours trying to figure it out, I realized I had assigned Ctrl A as a hot key in another program. This kept Ctrl A from working as 'select all' in all other programs.
Simple fix once I realized what the 'problem' was. So you may want to check your application hot key assignments if you are having problems with Ctrl + shortcuts.
