Keep Num Lock on after start-up

How do I make windows start-up with the Number Lock on?

Windows will remember the setting you use at shutdown, usually. If you have trouble with that, there is a registry setting you can make to do it. If you are comfortable with that, for now you can go to :

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Keyboard] (or [HKEY_USERS.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Keyboard] for all users) "InitialKeyboardIndicators"="2"

Later, you can come back to this thread when the "FitIt4me" team has the button developed to do that for you. They should be finishing up development work on that pretty soon.

I have followed these instructions and I will check it the next time I reboot. Interestingly my InitialKeyboardIndicators was set to 2 when I opened the key. Was does the "2" indicate? I know "0" is off and "1" is on.

Download the JPEG file instead. If you are not able to do so then go to the 'Performance and Maintenance' forum and look at the thread entitled 'Windows 7 Seems to Not Read the Complete BIOS.' Near the end of this thread is a posting describing how to lock a Registry Key. The JPEG is just a copy of this posting. Even though I wrote the two programs which you attempted to download I would strongly recommend that you follow the steps listed in the JPEG INSTEAD of using either of my programs.

Listen up! I have been told about this setting multiple times. I conferred with THREE computer technicians. THIS SOLUTION FAILED FOR ALL FOUR OF US IN MULTIPLE TESTS! Quit spreading this nonsense and admit that you do not know how to fix this problem because it is based on a stupid decision.

Yesterday I wrote a C program in HALF AN HOUR which automatically ensures that the Num Lock key is set correctly. Anyone who would like to download it can do so here: http://cid-0f30552f23a71d05.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/Reset%20Num%20Lock?nl=1&uc=2&isFromRichUpload=1

Once you download the program version you desire create a shortcut to it and place the shortcut in the hidden startup folder:

Hidden Start Menu for All Users: ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

Hidden Start Menu for a Single User: Users<Name of the User>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

There is one problem with these two programs: They are unable to start-up 'Mouse Keys'. I posted a request in the 'Performance' Forum requesting how to do this, but as is so often the case in these forums none of you 'Most Valued Programmers' respond to questions concerning the internal workings of Windows 7.

For some reason my PC wont let me install this download, so I will just turn on num lock when it boots up.
