Programs Files vs Program files (x86)

What is the difference between the "Program Files" folder & the "Program Files (x86)" folder, in C Drive? Various programs seem split almost equally between the 2, after I upgraded from Vista to 7, except that Internet Explorer is in both, meaning that when I "Open with" for a text file I get IE listed twice.

Can I move everything to one or other of these & delete the other one? Is one for 64-bit and one for 32-bit programs or something like that?

Hi Milton,

Yes, the two ‘Program File’ folders that are listed are for 32 bit and 64 bit version of Windows 7. The folder with (x86) is for 32 bit version.

    sorry i read this now ,but i an in COPDrevalidaytion 9 weaks!

    think you have chance all ,but if i open mine laptop an will start i need to push

    ctrl alt en delete together  than i get taak beheer?

    than i can open mine outlook ,but can not in i message open de mails?

    go back ctrl alt en delete look en can futher an i have that mine mouse does strange.

    Hi, my husband has bought me this for 2nd hands? I put it to do I press enter, then comes a picture in which I need to enter a password in the directory C: is everything in when my computer has crashed, he said everything is on 1 folder, open it, but not use it, otherwise crashed ie at all? I do not know what is for 2014 took part. my knowledge has there windows 10 pro is set up? Now it says at the bottom of activate windows, problem viewfinder showing there is a license but then you download 10 home windows. I would like to the pictures and videos in different folder. Maybe this can help you? Should also always use ctrl alt delete and it is stuck again or page not found. Not know what is going on?
