Windows 7 has High CPU Usage and slow performance

Update on my workaround, posted upthread on July 8 ago. Brief background - I went through much the same as other posters, removing this and that apparent culprit, only to have something else seem to start hogging CPU. Eventually I tumbled to the fact that the problem ALWAYS starts when the system is allowed to go into "hibernate" mode. When it resumes, the cpu usage shoots to 100% and stays there until the system is rebooted. This is repeatable. I changed my power saving settings so the system never hibernates and the problem never recurred for several weeks. A week or so ago ago it came back. I checked power settings, and sure enough, they were back to the default of hibernate after x amount of time idle. An MS upgrade had been installed the night before, btw. I reset to "never sleep" and it has not recurred since. The issue is with an MS system module that manages the hardware halmacpi.dll (hardware abstraction layer). It goes nuts and babbles, issuing jillions of unprocessed interrupts, flooding the cpu. It MAY be that a peripheral device is the root cause, due to some incompatibility, but in my opinion the halmacpi.dll is bad code - it should have a means of ignoring something it can't deal with. BTW, the problem started immediately after another automatic MS update of - you guessed it - the halmacpi.dll This workaround is ironclad in my situation. Try it. Editorial comment: There are far too many suggestions in this thread that assume people are idiots who use the wrong products and don't know their **** from first base. Reminds me of "real programmers don't use PASCAL." They take the position that it could not POSSIBLY be a fault in the OS, so you stupid users MUST be doing something idiotic. They suggest chasing red herrings you've already posted that you already did. Advice is worth exactly what you pay for it. So take suggestions with a big grain of salt, particularly when the tone is condescending.

 Well I already knew that deleting audidg.exe wouldn't be a solution, as for error reports I can't find any, most reports I can find relate to archiving mail from Outlook Express. In my mind I have proved it to be the audiodg file, so I just have to wait for Microsoft to solve. As for not providing enough information for you, I thought I did. All was well with v 2.5 of YtunnelPro and Yahoo Messanger, untill a Hard drive failure, at the same time Ytunnelpro website was off line for updates so I couldn't reactivate my existing verson, then the new version came out and i started getting alerts from Norton Internet Security 2011 that there was excessive CPU usage and audiodg.exe was the culprit, I also had Yahoo messanger.exe cause it as well. I read it was only Vista and Windows 7 users that was effected and mother boards with RealTek sound cards, so all drivers are up to date, BIOS has be flashed, no blue screens. As stated visit http://www,ytunnelpro.com and view postings there on v2.6732/736 YTP freezing. I built the PC myself, it didn't go bang so it is ok, you can scroll back to get the specs, of my desktop and Acer Aspire Laptop. YTunneProl founder can't reproduce the issue but is investigating. I bee through disabling enhacements in playback devices, issue still persists. I will continue totroubleshoot. It is not only YTP , but also third party chat clients like Yazak and Ysupra suffer the same but not as pronounced. Don't loose any sleep over it I will solve it sooner or later? So all was ok until I replace a hard drive?

I agree further discussion on security software would not be productive but it is not off topic in terms of poor system performance and it's propensity to interfere with the proper running of the operating system. However, as as you suggest let's leave it there.

Your question about audioge.exe is not the way I would approach your problem. Without seeing error reports I cannot comment on how you might try to solve your problem.

 I Think we better agree to disagee on Anti Virus as it is off subject. Answer me this can the audiodg.exe file be done without, and the sound card still fuction ?? Answer that then you will have my attention?
