Cannot delete system volume information folder on windows 7 !?!

I cannot delete system volume information folder in D:/ E:/ on windows 7

I took ownership as admin on the folder but I cannot delete it completely!

I run an elevated command prompt and deleted some files in it but cannot remove the folder!

In vista I could mange to delete it after taking ownership on the folder by pressing del the folder will go away!

any ideas?

don`t ask me why I am trying to remove the folder pls...i just need to

Old post I know but I've had this problem on several of my removeable HDs and finally I managed to remove the 'System Volume Information' folder:

DO NOT DO THIS ON YOUR C: OR YOUR WINDOWS HARDDRIVE!!!!!

Right click desktop and click [New->Shortcut]

Write: cmd.exe

Click [Next] then [Finish]

Right click the cmd.exe icon and click 'Run As Adminstrator"

Now select the external hard drive (F: in my case)

C:>f:

Now do the following (you can copy paste):

F:>attrib -s -h /S /D

F:>attrib -r /S /D

F:>rd "System Volume Information" /S

System Volume Information, Are you sure (Y/N)? y

And you're DONE ;-)

    I'm sure it works for some people, however I just happened to try this with an external drive. And unfortunately the drive is not detected when in "repair mode", therefore not allowing me to perform a remove directory command.

    It would not be an easy operation to connect the drive internally as its a WD mybook drive and I don't want to damage the case. (don't see any screws).

    It's weird though, the folder says its empty but properties of the folder says 242gb used, and I can see multiple files inside. I also cannot take ownership (the files were probably made when I used this drive on my laptop)

    So important to note for others, If the drive does not work in the repair computer option, connect it internally if possible.

    Please explain what prompted you to consider attempting removal and we can see if we can offer a better alternative solution.

    I cannot remove system volume information from my hard disk and from my laptop, any suggest? I´ve tried with all the things that are on youtube and nothing really works, the Recycler. bin virus is on my lap and hard disk every time I go in

    I would really appreciate if you could help.
