how do you completely disable the preview window that pops up when your mouse pointer hovers over an item on the taskbar?

the only thing i've been able to do is turn off the desktop composition option, which turns the preview windows into lists.

i don't want *anything* popping up.  all it does is get in the way!  thanks in advance

Hi telum01

You can set the hover time to a long value

Open Regedit by the use of RUN command or start menu search go to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

there right click on right pane  Create a new DWORD called ExtendedUIHoverTime and set the value to 20000 (that's 20 seconds) or value of your wish..

for that much of seconds it will not pop up..

so by hopefully turned off.

Hope it helps

Hi Tangency

yes,

the value is in Milli seconds, and has to be a Decimal value. hex character not accepted.

Dword has designed accordingly 32 bit and 64 bit for respective versions.

thanks for understanding

Please explain why you generically believe that it is a "very important and handy" feature.  I have not met a person yet who agrees with you.  Thanks.

I tried this (although there was already a ExtendedUIHoverTime) and changed the value to 20000 decimal but I'm still getting the taskbar previews.

Thanks for this I'm running Win 7 Pro x64 and it worked fine. Just wish there was a way to completely disable it I think I have done it before not sure how though got so many text docs with so much junk and tweaks cluttering my drives cant find anything anymore =P I got to agree with everyone in here minus Ken that this is another really annoying feature that nobody needs it is just eye candy....  I guess. Wow I got five folders all in detail view in my task bar look how pretty those pics are when I accidentally get to close to the task bar  they all look the same as each other still cant read whats one them though so how will that help me be more functional and productive? I know what folders and junk are in my task bar at any one time by the name displayed on it. I dont need some pointless annoying pop up especially when it minimizes or messes with the app or whatever I got running at the second just so it can display itself especially annoying in a windowed game. Anyhow whats new huh there hasn't been a windows released yet that didn't have its pointless garbage nobody wants or needs and that you cant get rid of without hacking the heck out of the OS. So far got my win 7 pro down to a 5gb installation with only like 24 processes running by removing everything I can without breaking it still got minor annoyances like this though. Far cry from my XP I made like a 300mb iso and like a 2gb install ran so smoothly and error free then this came out. As with others I would like to say I want to go back to XP but that is not a reality because with win 7 being out now 8 being developed XP isn't going to be supported shortly and I have already seen some apps that wont work on XP or need work arounds to run them that have recently come out because they were built for 7 anyhow enough of my ranting thanks again for the tip.
