Mouse doesn't work in Microsoft Word to select text, or highlight text to copy or add features such as bold/italics/underline.

After pasting an E-mail into a Microsoft Word document (which I do all the time), my mouse stopped working to click anywhere in the document and it won't allow me to use the side scroll bar. I can still click on tabs and commands up top and the page up and down buttons, but I can't highlight text to underline/bold/italics or to copy or move around in the document. I use these features all the time and am very frustrated. I can still do all of these things in other applications such as E-mail, Facebook, Internet but not in Word. Please help. I have already checked my mouse settings and drivers and they are all up-to-date without errors. I have restarted my computer; the only next step I can think of is reinstalling Microsoft Office Professional 2007. I appreciate any assistance you can provide. Respectfully, Julie

My Word 2007 using Vista Home Edition worked last weekend, but this weekend I was unable to open a Word document that was attached to an email, without having to save it to my hard drive. I also encountered the problem of not being able to navigate through the Word document using my mouse.

I log into my pc as a 'user' not 'administrator' and I tried the option of opening Word in safe mode, which worked, but in order for me to change the 'Contribute' add-in I need to log in as 'administrator'. When I did this I noticed that there was A Windows Vista Service Pack 2 waiting to install. Afte I installed it and logged in as a 'user' all the previous problems were rectified. I didn't try the 'Contribute' add-in. Most of the Windows Updates work automatically through my 'user' log in, but for some reason the SP2 needed me to log in as 'adminsitrator'. It seems like there was a changeover of updates. I remember that there was an Windows update about 4 days ago which installed. Cheers Steve.

It says to press CTRL when starting Word, which will start the program in safe mode. I just tried it and it worked for me!

Also, that particular blog gives a link to this:

That suggests deleting the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ Office\12.0\Word\D

I haven't tried that yet, but since I have no intention of pressing Ctrl every time I want to start Word, I'm sure I will be trying that soon. It seems that our problem has been a common one.

I don't even have windows. This started happening to me yesterday, and it's really messing with my ability to do my job effectively. I wish I knew what the problem is.
