Windows 7 Unable to install Itunes. An error occurred during the installation of assembly HRESULT:0x800736FD

**Original Title** An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT,version="8.0.50727.4053",type="win32",publicKeyToken='1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorarchitecture="x86". Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT:0x800736FD

Windows xp to Windows 7 32 bit install of home premium.  iTunes will not install.  The installation freezes at Publishing product information, gives this error message:

An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT,version="8.0.50727.4053",type="win32",publicKeyToken='1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorarchitecture="x86". Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT:0x800736FD

stays frozen and eventually claims iTunes was installed correctly.  Opening iTunes produces an error stating that Apple application support is not installed (Apple application support/Apple mobile device support are not on the computer).  (Bonjour, Quicktime, and Apple software update are there).  I have uninstalled the programs which goes fine but nothing I try can get itunes to work.  I tried installing itunes 8.0, running on a different administrator user, running as administrator, stopping all programs from running, and installing while offline.  I read that there might be a problem with Microsoft Visual C++ 2005.  My computer shows  both Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable andMicrosoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.21022.218 on it.  I tried installing the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update file vcredist_x86.exe found at **http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=766a6af7-ec73-40ff-b072-9112bab119c2&displaylang=en#filelist**

but it freezes at around 100% of completion. 

This is where I am now.  My Windows updates have not been failing and my system is up to date.  I do not know what to do as I need this program installed in order to use my phone.

I reinstalled Windows 7.

Good luck other people with the same problem.

    To those who didn't have the Registry Key already in the registry:

    Yes, you can just create the key.

    Use the following steps:

    1. Open regedit and go to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control

    Right-click on a blank spot on the right-hand side and reate a new DWord Value called RegistrySizeLimit

    Set the value to: FFFFFFFF (4294967295)

    1. Reboot
    2. Open a command prompt as administrator and run SFC /SCANNOW to check the integrity of system modules.
    3. Install pending windows updates

    This worked for me on a Windows 7 64-Bit machine.

    I am having this same problem but I am not a programmer and do not know how to perform the entries that you are showing in your directions...could you please give more detailed description on how and where I need to type your instructions.  I am running 7 64bit...thanks for helping.

    Just wanted to say I did not have to do anything but allow the iTunes installer to back out but not cancel.

    I then tried to do exactly the answer you gave, Javier, but also could not find the RegistrySizeLimit key like others did.

    So, while I was stuck and was reading the rest of the posts where users stated the same issue I had...

    All of a sudden, the iTunes installer promoted me if I wanted to continue/finishwith the install, I click "OK" and incredibly after trying all the fixes at Apple and here...

    It finally completed the iTunes 10.5 install.

    I have no idea what I did other then wake up Windows 7 by opening up the Registry.

    Go figure.

    Anyway... Thanks to all, for sticking to it and sharing...
