Windows update fails with error code 0x643

I have downloaded the recent Microsoft updates and all but one installed successfully.  The failing update was:  Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Security Update for Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2 (KB953297);

with an error code of  0x643.

We tried several times to install it and it keeps failing.  It was originally the 3rd update in the list to install.  After failing the first time, it was the only one we were trying to install.  We tried it after the restart required for the other updates.

    From the context in which the letters 'cudos' appear, the word that's meant is actually 'kudos' - a noun meaning praise or honour.  'Kudos' derives from the Greek, (hinted at by the fact that 'k' starts the word and 'os' ends it). 

    Even though there's an 's' at the end, 'kudos' is singular.  There ain't no 'kudo', and no 'kudoses', just 'kudos'.  ...  If you wanted to modify the word you'd use, for example, 'much' or 'more' or 'little', not 'few' or 'many'.  (Unlike supermarket check-out counters with signs that read 'less than 8 items' instead of 'fewer than 8 items'.) 

    I hope this helps, or at least briefly takes the mind off computer-jargon!

    running vista and get error 0643.  repeatedly try to install update. it fails. your patch update

    did not work. so what to do?  this has been going on for months.

    Check the Instalations of .Net, mainly the 2.0 in your Add & Remove programs, try to repair it.

    If unale to do it by the support link, then download from "Microsoft Download Centre" the same description of the package eg: "Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2", download it to the desktop and extrat it to a folder, do not run it, after that in the the Add & Remove programs, click the "change" button and select the proper path, the software should be able to repair by it self.

    I don't have the "Hide All Microsoft Services" listed in the Services window.  Any other instructions to go along this avenue?

    I so donot understand any of the above detailed info.  My knowledge is very limited.

    Is there anyway Microsoft can help me get to where I need to be?
