I purchased my laptop now for about 6 months and the most annoying part is that there is never a low battery notification before my laptop hibernates. It has never shown up once.
The battery meter is active and shown in my system tray. I have gone into power options, changed advanced battery options for low, critical, and reserve levels as well as turned ON low battery notification. In system tray properties > notification area > customize > I have also selected "show icon and notifications".
The windows 7 microsoft website as well as many other forums only suggest to do these 2 things. I HAVE done these two things, as they were the original settings when I bought this laptop new...what else can I do? Is there a patch, download, anything?! I would rather not have to install 3rd party software. I would just like my laptop to function properly. I am not a heavy gamer or student, I just use my laptop to surf the web and watch videos. I also use free Avira antivirus, if any of this is important to why a battery notification won't show up.
Edit: My friend and I bought the exact same computer on the same day. His shows notifications and mine doesn't, so I know it's possible.

Just open your
"control panel"
and then "power option" then
"change advance power settings"
there select the profile you want to active( power saver ,high performance etc.)
Then scroll down to "battery" expand it and find "low battery notification" and turn "on" for both "on battery" and "plugged in" and you will done.
Note :- not necessary to turn it on for "plugged in"
Ok, more and more details are being added to the problem so I would like to sum up them a bit.
First, it would be nice that the user who created this thread, since he/she aknowledged that the help offered so far has been proved useless, remove the "Answered" mark (clearly not added by him/her), so that it gets evident that the problem is not solved whatsoever.
Then, I had a narrow point of view of the problem, now I'm realising that there are more issues at stake.
Someone said that the problem was only a matter of battery lifespan, then replacing it is enough to receive correctly the notifications. Can someone else confirm this? In this way we are sure that the cause of the problem for this user is not different from the others. Until now, another user said that he cannot solve the problem this way.
Another important issue is the operating system. I believed was a problem linked only to Windows 10 (no matter what update, am i right?), but now another user said he has the problem also with the solid 8.1. (This is not so surprising, since the thread has been created in 2010, when not even Windows 8 existed).
My problem started as soon as I upgraded my laptop to Windows 10 in the 2015 summer (first build).
My laptop wasn't able to hibernate or to go to sleep mode, not only with low battery but even after a certain planned time interval ('go to sleep after x minutes of inactivity') so if I left the laptop unguarded, I found it dead with all my work lost. At first my laptop was not able to enter these modes, but I managed to solve this by flashing and reflashing the bios. Now it is able to enter these modes, only when left unused but the battery problem still persists.
I have now reinterpreted its former behaviour in this way: it was unable to hibernate/go to sleep so it remained on until the battery problem came into play, killing the laptop, so it didn't die because of the missing functionality, it was just a consequence that, in fact, is still present.
Now, as you can imagine, I'm using my laptop with the charger always plugged, and my battery got severely worn and out of calibration (but this problem leaves us no choice but using it never unplugged) : the lamp that signals that the battery is recharging is always orange (so not full charge, but still recharging) and my battery level is stuck at 83-84%. Rarely, unplugging and plugging it again, it can reach the 100%. It recharges up to 9000-12000 (I guess they are mWh) vs the original 44000.
Unplugging it, the laptop could die even at 50-60% nominal battery level, no one can know or predict the level at which it will die.
At this point, maybe, the battery itself could be also a source of problem, but at the beginning, it wasn't so bad, it lasted at least one hour and when low it used to send a warning message and make the laptop go to sleep.
I don't know how to fix it either and no one on this board can help. However, it isn't the type of laptop you have, it has something to do with windows 10. Mine used to be fine and then after one of the updates it became like that. All the settings are right, according to all this advice. But it doesn't make any difference. It's a Windows 10 thing. With all their updating, they should fix that!
It's not just Windows 10, I have 8.1.

Hy gyz I hve acer laptop 2 months old but battery prblm is same it goes to hibernate suddenly and when try to on it show critical low battery.What to do i have done all low battery notification on but no pop ups comes it of sudden.
