No low battery notification and my computer always just shuts off, I have all the right settings on

I purchased my laptop now for about 6 months and the most annoying part is that there is never a low battery notification before my laptop hibernates. It has never shown up once.

The battery meter is active and shown in my system tray. I have gone into power options, changed advanced battery options for low, critical, and reserve levels as well as turned ON low battery notification. In system tray properties > notification area > customize > I have also selected "show icon and notifications".

The windows 7 microsoft website as well as many other forums only suggest to do these 2 things. I HAVE done these two things, as they were the original settings when I bought this laptop new...what else can I do? Is there a patch, download, anything?! I would rather not have to install 3rd party software. I would just like my laptop to function properly. I am not a heavy gamer or student, I just use my laptop to surf the web and watch videos. I also use free Avira antivirus, if any of this is important to why a battery notification won't show up.

Edit: My friend and I bought the exact same computer on the same day. His shows notifications and mine doesn't, so I know it's possible.

Just open your

"control panel" 

and then "power option" then 

"change advance power settings"

there select  the profile you want to active( power saver ,high performance etc.)

Then scroll down to "battery" expand it and find "low battery notification" and turn  "on" for both "on battery" and "plugged in"  and you will done.

Note :- not necessary to turn it on for "plugged in"

    I did this and it didn't help. But it brought me to my solution where I went to the advanced settings and turned the notification at 10% OFF, clicked apply and then went in again, turned them to ON, clicked apply and voilà, it worked.

    I hope this helps other ppl too :)

    I was having problems with shutdown and NO notification on very short battery usage.  After verifying all settings, I decided to replace battery. I obviously had a battery issue as I have regained my battery life.  But, it is still shutting down on low battery with no notification.  This time, though, instead of a hard shutdown it is keeping everything open -- so, at least I'm not losing everything.  I have to plug in and reboot to get back to my stuff.  All of this 'notification' stuff seemed to start shortly after download of Windows 10 . . . .
