  • Running Windows 7, 32-bi,t on a Lenovo W500. Display Driver: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650.
  • The error message (“display driver stopped responding & has recovered”) follows a system freeze, a short blackout. Then everything works fine.
  • Downloaded the most current driver from the company's Web site.
  • Seeemd to work for a day, but now I'm getting the same behavior.

Hello Crabby Office Lady,

This error can happen because of an outdated video driver, to many programs running at one time or even high CPU activity. There is a link to a KB article on the following post that gives more info on the issue and helps to fix it, see:

I'm having the same problem here while playing Battlefield 3.

I've got a HP branded laptop with a AMD Radeon HD 7690M XT GFX Card in it.

After a little bit of searching I've found an official topic about HP and her products...

So, no point in trying to update the drivers, I'm stuck with this problem like forever.

Next time, I'm going to concider it first before buying an HP branded laptop...

I gave up. Dude, I'm gettin' a Dell. I'll freeze my HP DV7 until they find a cure and then thaw it out. :-)

I have a Toshiba so it is not just the laptop.  Microsoft let us all down.

Halt! I have a Dell and the same problem here. It's an issue with Microsoft, not the computer.
