“Display driver stopped responding and has recovered” error.

I did mention that 'it doesn't matter if you don't overclock.' As long as you are using 4 or more gigs of ram then the controller is going to need a little help for stability.

Before my issue was solved, i tried pretty much every suggestion that was listed here, yet nothing worked. Even if the problem stop for a short time it came back, which is exactly what persons here have mentioned. By all indication the problem it seemed was related to the grahics drivers or directx or some update from microsft....it just looked like a software problem. The asking calling all the companies that i mentioned in my previous post  I began to wonder if my rams were bad (memtest showed they were ok) so i was back to teh software head aches.

My system has been error free up until this point since i made my last post and i am currently installing all of my games (over 70 of them)  and other programs with no problems. In fact by changing the setting in the bios as i had mentioned before, i was now able to lower my rams from the manufacturers recomended 1.65v to a little less than that and i have no problems whatsoever.

My cpu (2600k) was now able to get some overclocking under it's skin with a nice overclock of 5.1 ghz with no issues. (p.s despite my super liquid cooling setup and low temps i wasn't keeping it @ 5.1 r u crazy, it's back down to 4.7) 

There is a reason some motherboards cost a whole lot more than others and it's not simply because a particular board might be rich with features. The fact is boards do get unstable whether initally or over time, it happens so you will have to tweak the setting when this happens for stabiltiy.

The more expensive boards tend to be much more stable due to the type of equipment that pacted into it. if you don't believe me take a look at the p8z68 series. If you u look closely at the designs you will see that the more costly the board gets, the more capacitors it carries which ensures the boards stabiltiy in basic or extreme functions. I have the p8z68-v and it's no where decked out like the higher end version.

Nonetheless my solution has worked and i am no longer getting any errors and i hope that its works just the same for everyone. if not then i am sorry my solution didn't work for you but do hope that you will find a solution cause this problem was very upsetting so i understand the frustration***if there is any.

I sent an email to the shop where i bought my pc. They said that this was a conflict between the os and the driver from nvidia.They advised me to install the driver that came with my pc. Did so, and now xbmc is working, and no more error messages.

Congrats. I am really happy to hear that. There is so many folks over the net that are complaining about this problem that makes me wonder if the manufacturers and driver/os makers are paying attention. The good thing though is that as more of us find ways to get the issue(s) resolve depending on our own circumstance, it will benefit others to resolve their own issues.

Update:  Braking News....................................................................no not really!

I went ahead and tried some other solutions to the same problem to see if it would work and they did work.

Here they are:

1. If you have windows vista or windows 7- disable aero by choosing windows basic. if you don't know how then just right click on your desktop --> select appearance/personalize --> select windows basic.
2. This option i truly feel is one of the real root cause for this issue, it deals directly with the memory. Of all the computers i have looked at over the years, the memory settings has pretty much always been set to auto my manufacturers. This is ok initially but as time passes and capacitors and controllers face electrical ware and tare, the memory begins to behave unstably. in instances like my which is a new build, I did the same thing  left my memory setting to auto. But depending on what's happening to the board, you will encounter certain types of instability like what we are all here complaining about.

****I went and change the settings from auto to manual. I set the first 4 settings according to the manufacture specifications which in my case with my memory being 8 gigs of ddr3-2133, it's specs is 9-11-10-28 @ 1.65v. I set did that and even lowered my memory volts to 1.645 and tested the aero on in windows 7 and have no problem.

**Clearly aero isn't the problem but rather the memory timings and voltage settings (in my case) and as such changing the aero feature to basic would only be a patch job instead of the fix.

If you are intimidated by your bios then do the aero thing but if you can, then go deal with the bios settings.

3. directx messed up. I found that for different reasons directx will get messed up and you have to do a complete reinstall. Now doing a reinstall might not be what you want to do as you will lose your data. But if you didn't know, there is a way around it if you have your windows cd. Just simply place your cd in while you are in windows and allow windows to load up.

**follow the promps unitl you get to the point that askes to do a clean install or custom, choose custom.

** windows might want you to uninstall some conflicting programs if it found any, before it will continue with the installation.

**once that's finish windows will (with your direction) create a folder that will store your previous problematic install, and will now install everything a fresh. 

***once finished you will have a clean updated registry and will still be able to access your files, games etc from your previous install without the headache. the display issues should now be gone.

As i said i have done these things and it works.
