  • Running Windows 7, 32-bi,t on a Lenovo W500. Display Driver: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650.
  • The error message (“display driver stopped responding & has recovered”) follows a system freeze, a short blackout. Then everything works fine.
  • Downloaded the most current driver from the company's Web site.
  • Seeemd to work for a day, but now I'm getting the same behavior.

Hello Crabby Office Lady,

This error can happen because of an outdated video driver, to many programs running at one time or even high CPU activity. There is a link to a KB article on the following post that gives more info on the issue and helps to fix it, see:

I've tried everything that I can find on the net to fix this.  I've had the machine since March and this just started last Saturday.

There are many people with this issue, hopefully Microsoft will offer a fix, as you said.

Just today I got my new system Acer Aspire 5742G. I downloaded and installed google chrome and mozilla. I tried to run youtube videos my favourite pasttime but it was hanging all the time....giving the same error message as mentioned by the people earlier here.

"The display driver has recovered from an error."

Please tell me what could be the problem ...Is there any problem with my power supply may be high voltage or something, Becuase my old system lenovo also was hanging like this and after 3 days the display went completely and there seems to be a problem with the motherboard.

So I am little bit scared as I bought a new system and it also behaving in the same manner. So I am concerned whether is it the problem with my power supply which has cuased this problem or it is purely related the drivers and hardware.

    I would appreciate your replies...

    Thanking you in advance..
