  • Running Windows 7, 32-bi,t on a Lenovo W500. Display Driver: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650.
  • The error message (“display driver stopped responding & has recovered”) follows a system freeze, a short blackout. Then everything works fine.
  • Downloaded the most current driver from the company's Web site.
  • Seeemd to work for a day, but now I'm getting the same behavior.

Hello Crabby Office Lady,

This error can happen because of an outdated video driver, to many programs running at one time or even high CPU activity. There is a link to a KB article on the following post that gives more info on the issue and helps to fix it, see:

    SOLVED

    Hi everyone,

Problem is not with a video card and is has nothing to do with video drivers. I think it has something to do with a motherboard.

Before this solution I tried everything - renewing video drivers, deleting windows updates, I even installed new system coolers, tested random memory for errors - nothing helped.

I have Gygabyte GA-MA78G-DS3HP. What you want to do is download latest mother board drivers from GYGABYTE site:

    http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/download-center.aspx?ck=2

I don't now about the other models, probably you can find something similar on google.

I'm not sure which one of them did the trick, I recommend installing them all - chipset, audio, networking, it never hurts to renew your system drivers.

Finally after 6 months of crashing I can finally enjoy full system performance. Good luck.

Congratz! Unfortunately this is just one scenario why you would receive TDR crashes. Other people have already tried this solution with success, and some with no success. So I wouldn't say it's "solved", due to the fact that so many different factors cause this problem.

But thanks for sharing, hopefully this resolves the problem for someone else too!

    Hi Maxstr,

I changed that value to 0, but alas there are still problems. I've changed it back to two again.

    Steve.

Steve, I think changing it to 0 can make it worse, because now it won't wait at all. There is another key you need to use if you want to disable TDR completely, but have you tried changing it to 6 ?

I  recently experianced the same issues on several new Dell Optiplex 780 units running Windows 7 32 bit. I updated the system Bios to the latest version from the Dell support site and thus far the problem has not resurfaced. (Previously Dell had me replace the mother board and video card on two of the machines with no affect)

    Hi Maxstr,

Yeah I changed it to 6 the first time I tried changing that setting. My changes went: 6-10-0-2. Every change made no difference.

    Thanks,

    Steve.
