Running Windows 7, 32-bi,t on a Lenovo W500. Display Driver: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650. The error message (“display driver stopped responding & has recovered”) follows a system freeze, a short blackout. Then everything works fine. Downloaded the most current driver from the company's Web site. Seeemd to work for a day, but now I'm getting the same behavior. Crabby Office Lady

I'm kind of new to PC gaming and I started getting this same error in anything from League of Legends, Oblivion, Fallout 3, TF2 etc. I tried calling some guy at Geek Squad who told me to press F8 when I boot up my computer, That worked for a week or two but now it just seems to decrease the frequency of crashes. I have SATA drives but I'm not sure how to find the nForce driver on them. I have an Asus CM5675 if that helps and a Nvidia Geforce 9800. Help is appreciated, I really hate those 2 Left games in LoL :/

I also tried dravus69's suggestion and hope it is going to work. Just applied it about 15 minutes ago so we will see. Quick question, my starting values were not what were documented in the proposed fix, should I be worried about this? Thanks very much!

Dude your right and the answer is NOT a Heat Issue Whoever said that doesnt know what they are talking about. It comes from the way that Ati Throttles their driver on the desktop so that they're considered to be a "Green" solution. (For those worried about Power consumption.)the ATI 5770 is rated at 300MHz(18Watts) on the desktop. Try the solutions below. It's a fairly new thing but all the drivers have it now. here is the fix taken from an amd site on the fix.. Instead of fiddling with clock speeds, all you need to do is increase the TDR (timeout detection and recovery) setting in the registry. I set mine to 6 seconds a long time ago, and never had the problem again. On a side note, my MSI Lightning 5870 with latest drivers, the idle core speed is 157 mhz. It used to be 300 though, not sure when that changed.

This error can happen because of an outdated video driver, to many programs running at one time or even high CPU activity. There is a link to a KB article on the following post that gives more info on the issue and helps to fix it, see:
