Running Windows 7, 32-bi,t on a Lenovo W500. Display Driver: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650. The error message (“display driver stopped responding & has recovered”) follows a system freeze, a short blackout. Then everything works fine. Downloaded the most current driver from the company's Web site. Seeemd to work for a day, but now I'm getting the same behavior. Crabby Office Lady

I'm kind of new to PC gaming and I started getting this same error in anything from League of Legends, Oblivion, Fallout 3, TF2 etc. I tried calling some guy at Geek Squad who told me to press F8 when I boot up my computer, That worked for a week or two but now it just seems to decrease the frequency of crashes. I have SATA drives but I'm not sure how to find the nForce driver on them. I have an Asus CM5675 if that helps and a Nvidia Geforce 9800. Help is appreciated, I really hate those 2 Left games in LoL :/

Thanks Dravus69, this seems to be on the path to a fix.... I have had this problem ever since I purchased my computer (laptop) SCII, wow and a few other games caused this error.. however AION is killing me... it happens so much. By downloading MSI Afterburner and increasing my Core Clock, it has helped reduce the recovery errors.... thank you.

Dude your right and the answer is NOT a Heat Issue Whoever said that doesnt know what they are talking about. It comes from the way that Ati Throttles their driver on the desktop so that they're considered to be a "Green" solution. (For those worried about Power consumption.)the ATI 5770 is rated at 300MHz(18Watts) on the desktop. Try the solutions below. It's a fairly new thing but all the drivers have it now. here is the fix taken from an amd site on the fix.. Open CCC and switch to ATI Overdrive Unlock and enable Overdrive Go to Options/Profiles/Profile Manager and create a new profile called, let's say, STABLE. Save the new profile. But DO NOT ACTIVATE the profile. Now go to C:\Users{YourUserName}\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\Profiles folder ( I assume C: is your system drive ) Note: You should have " show hidden files " turned on to see the folder. Open the .xml file named STABLE with notepad. Change the values of the idle Core clock and Memory clock speeds below Feature name="CoreClockTarget_0" Property name="Want_0" value="40000" note: previous value should be "15700" Feature name="MemoryClockTarget_0" Property name="Want_0" value="90000" note: previous value should be "30000" Save the file and close it. Go back to CCC and activate the profile. This will make the card idle at 400 MHz core clock and 900 MHz memory clock. The speed change is immediate. You can see the speeds onder CCC Overdrive section. Please note this change increases graphic card temperature by 6 to 7 degrees C at idle. oh yea if you dont have CCC you can use a program like MSI Afterburner to turn your clocks up manually...this is for the ATI VGA cards...you may assume that Nvidia also underclocks their Cards to you can try the MSI solution as well just turn your Core Clock up by, Say 100MHz or so, til the driver stops crashing... Note that you should use ATI CCC(Catalyst Control Center)Make sure to turn of Catalyst AI) to solve your isssues...Thank you and Have a nice Day...happy new year...

This error can happen because of an outdated video driver, to many programs running at one time or even high CPU activity. There is a link to a KB article on the following post that gives more info on the issue and helps to fix it, see:
