“Display driver stopped responding and has recovered” error.

  • Running Windows 7, 32-bi,t on a Lenovo W500. Display Driver: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650.
  • The error message (“display driver stopped responding & has recovered”) follows a system freeze, a short blackout. Then everything works fine.
  • Downloaded the most current driver from the company's Web site.
  • Seeemd to work for a day, but now I'm getting the same behavior.

Hello Crabby Office Lady,

This error can happen because of an outdated video driver, to many programs running at one time or even high CPU activity. There is a link to a KB article on the following post that gives more info on the issue and helps to fix it, see:

    I'm having the same problem , with my new HP probook 4520s , I'm using win7 ultimate , but i noticed this error when i installed ie9 i don't know if ie9 is the issue here

    My problem occurs on both, 7 (64-bit) and XP (32-bit). Mostly happens when viewing flash videos online. I also get some blank screens when minimizing certain games, like Ragnarok Online, and then the display driver will crash at times.

    Running a Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 6850

    Amd Phenom II 1055T

    on a Gigabyte GA 890GPA UD3H (890 GX Chipset)

    im having this problem only when i try to open world of warcraft. i dont know much about computers and its really **** me off how i cant play. ive read a lot of the posts here and my computer isnt overheating. if anyone here can help me please do.

    How could it be that when my computer is ice cold? Is it possible it's overheating inside despite the fact that it's cold to the touch everywhere on the outside? Wait, I actually tested my temps, and they were all at like 40C, so that's not it. If this indeed did fix it for you, I'd have to say you're not having the same problem 90% of us are having.
