“Display driver stopped responding and has recovered” error.

  • Running Windows 7, 32-bi,t on a Lenovo W500. Display Driver: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650.
  • The error message (“display driver stopped responding & has recovered”) follows a system freeze, a short blackout. Then everything works fine.
  • Downloaded the most current driver from the company's Web site.
  • Seeemd to work for a day, but now I'm getting the same behavior.

Hello Crabby Office Lady,

This error can happen because of an outdated video driver, to many programs running at one time or even high CPU activity. There is a link to a KB article on the following post that gives more info on the issue and helps to fix it, see:

    Hello, I am hoping my solution works for other people. My display driver collapsed at every pressure. Now with only one click issue is SOLVED for me. Here is the solution:

    Open ATI ccc (Catalyst control center), latest version. Open, Graphics -- power play -- un-click 'enable power play option'. That is it. It saved me from the ****.

    Hi,

    I first had the problem with my ati hd 6950 a month ago. I tried everything written on the internet. Then I changed the card with a gtx 580 lightning but the problem lasted. After that, I upgraded my high power 600w psu with a 1000w silverstone gold, and there it is. All the error messages have gone forever. I think the problem is not about the Tdr Latency. In my case graphic card needed more juice on 12V rail.
