Running Windows 7, 32-bi,t on a Lenovo W500. Display Driver: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650. The error message (“display driver stopped responding & has recovered”) follows a system freeze, a short blackout. Then everything works fine. Hi, I'm no geek but I do have a gaming machine and I like things to run smoothly. I have been experiencing this driver display problem and I have recently solved this issue with my machine. I followed some of the advice in these forums and still the problem persisted. Before the advice was taken my screens would go blank and come back 3-4 times an hour, afterwards my screens not only went blank but also switched themselves off! Like most of you out there I like a gadget or two and sitting on the floor I have an extension block which cleverly switches off my peripherals when I close down. Plugged into this same block are my computer and my two screens. I removed the screens from this block and plugged them into another anti surge block and guess what? Yes I've not had any problems since, everything works perfectly and I have had no interruptions telling me my display driver isn't working. This worked for me. I would look at your layout for powering your computer and peripherals. Cheers thirdworld

Hello, I am hoping my solution works for other people. My display driver collapsed at every pressure. Now with only one click issue is SOLVED for me. Here is the solution: Open ATI ccc (Catalyst control center), latest version. Open, Graphics -- power play -- un-click 'enable power play option'. That is it. It saved me from the ****. WORKED, WINDOWS 7 ATI 1GB DELL XPS, it was a simple click. Thanks a lot man. I have been dealing with the "display driver recovered" error for 2 years!!! First I had two NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 cards pushing to 3 monitors. The errors were once a day. Then I switched to one Radeon HD 6790 card pushing to 3 monitors (2 DVIs and 1 mini-display port) and the errors were once every 5 minutes. I am not a gamer but I do watch and edit videos. Anyway, the whole issue is very very frustrating. Plus, destroys my productivity. I have since taken the above advice. Using Catalyst Control Centre Version 2011.0728.1756.30366 - go to Performance - AMD Overdrive - unclick enable AMD Overdrive - click apply. Reboot system. I will let you know the results.

i use a Windows Vista on a Compaq dock and i commonly get this problem but about 1/5 times it never recovers and my moniter get s the status of no computer on/active so its yellow light turns on. i restart and it is fine but i do not like to manuel restart in the maner i am forced to due to the saving complications. i use AtiX6500 and this computer is always cold to touch, not below the standard but the fans i have installed on it are very powerful, and it has more than enogh power, everything in it is new and this is the ONLY problem this PC has.

Hi, Are You sure then You've got latest drivers? You can get them from Ati site here. Just click there on Motherboard Integrated Video - Full Catalyst Software (or invidual there You may change english language for other) and choose Win7 32 bit. There is now 9.9 version driver. Before installations of new driver remember to uninstall old one first. This error usually means then Your motherbaord is overheated. Normally there will be BSOD but Ati software react on that problem by reseting graphic card. Check Your temps with Lavalys Everest or HwMonitor . If temps will be to high use compressed air such as this and clean out all the vents with it. Laptop must be switched off and without battery. Minimum once per year I always recommend manual clean of heat sink and fan. You may try to do it also if compressed air won't help. How to do it check Your service documentation if it's avaible on Lenovo site. Do it only on Your own if You can do it and You if don't have warranty on it. If You still have warranty don't clean it manually on Your own because You will loose it. If You want to say thanks to anyone just click on Vote As Helpful (which is under every user avatar). This error can happen because of an outdated video driver, to many programs running at one time or even high CPU activity. There is a link to a KB article on the following post that gives more info on the issue and helps to fix it, see:
