“Display driver stopped responding and has recovered” error.

My computer developed this problem about 2 weeks after its first use. None of these solutions have worked so far. However, I have noticed that my computer never generates the error in Safe Mode. Now, running in Safe Mode isn't acceptable for the long term — I lose audio and printer capability, graphics are restricted, and so on. The obvious implication is that whatever is causing the error is not loaded during a Safe Mode boot-up. Perhaps that is a clue that will help wiser people deduce what is going wrong.

I have the same notebook running Windows 7 32-bit and it is happening even more frequently.

I have a solution for this problem.

I put up recently by nvidia with driver version 275.33 and OS with Windows 7 Ultimate SP1.

And before I get the same problem with you guys..

I found the solution by accident because so frustration, and work to date..

1. Open your Nvidia Control Panel
2. Go to Manage 3D Settings. You will see 2 tabs, Global Settings and Program Settings.
3. In Program Settings, add dwm.exe (Desktop Windows Manager) from C:\Windows\System32

    directory and set Power Management Mode becomes Prefer maximum performance for this

    program.

I have got the latest MSI Gaming Notebook and own it now 1 month. Yesterday it happened to me out of the blue - in between I only had black hacked blocks on my screen and it did not even recover anymore.

I thought - s... - not with a new Notebook. After reading a lot in all kind of forums I found this.

Since I followed the steps it did not happen again - I hope it stays like this.

Hope it will help other people with the same problem = seems to be something what happens to a

lot of people.

I finally found the answer to this question after several crashes while using AutoCAD 2012

My computer:

Dell laptop Inspiron 15R 2nd generation

i-5   2.3ghz, 4GB ram

and the basic graphics card that came with the system.

The basic graphics card is the problem. I just got off the phone w/Dell support. They remotely connected to my pc.

As it turns out, AutoCAD's minimum requirement is a graphics card w/at least 128MB of memory.

I'm not sure how much mine has, but of course it's less than that. So what happens is once AutoCAD* tries to acquire more memory than the card can hold, it then pulls memory from computer RAM. Well with 4GB of ram of should have plenty enough. NOT TRUE. See my memory card can only pull 64MB at a time from my computers ram. I don't think my graphics card can hold any memory actually.

So when I do something in AutoCAD that requires more than 64MB of memory, the computer crashed, turns black for a few seconds, and then recovers displaying that stupid message that we are all tired of seeing.

The FIX:  There isn't an easy one. I did download a new driver from dell that is supposed to help; however, it is not a fix. The only fix is a graphics card with at least 128MB of memory. Unfortunately for me. I cannot upgrade on this computer because in order to upgrade cards I would need to upgrade motherboards.... NOT AN OPTION.

Very Frustrating Dell !!!!
