Running Windows 7, 32-bi,t on a Lenovo W500. Display Driver: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650. The error message (“display driver stopped responding & has recovered”) follows a system freeze, a short blackout. Then everything works fine. Downloaded the most current driver from the company's Web site. Seeemd to work for a day, but now I'm getting the same behavior. Crabby Office Lady

I wonder if Microsoft monitors their own forum feeds because this problem seems to be something that may have started after a regular Windows 7 upgrade; the problem began for me about 4-5 months ago. Before that, everything was fine, and I had made no changes to my system, and had been running Windows 7 32 , upgraded from XP, for over a year. Mine crashes to the black screen about 1 time out of 10 when I hit the "Reply" button in Windows Mail. It recovers fairly quickly, but some of the Live Mail screen remains black, like where the buttons are, so I must close it, losing any email I was composing. I have an NVIDIA display card, and the newest driver for Windows 7. After reading all of the posts, it seems that the only thing they have in common is Windows 7. MICROSOFT TECH SUPPORT: Please pay attention to this problem feed and post a solution!

Oh and which sort of RAM are we talking about? (Really this is irritating me)

Hi everyone, I have the SAME EXACT PROBLEM!!! But exept for that it only happens when i enter my game the sims 3. I've tried everything and it still does that it makes me really angry because i'm on the game and then the screen turns black and starts to flash. Please help me? I have a Toshiba satellite I don't know the number of it but it has a wipe able keyboard. (And the letters on the keyboard are green)

SORTED SORTED SORTED (well for me) Deciding this was not going to beat me, I set about a like for like (except the vidoe card) component replacement until the problem was solved. The video card was changed from a Nvidia to an ATi to no avail so i I bought a new motherboard, then a PSU ..... and finally the RAM ....BINGO. The previous RAM was 4gb Corsair and never once failed a memtest however replacing both sticks like for like & problem has totally gone. So having all the new bits, I bought another CPU, hard disk & cooler and built a second system identical to the first one (except for the video card) I used the old RAM but instead of windows 7 I installed XP and low and behold........no errors. Conclusion ........ windows 7 (64 bit) is very sensitive to the RAM. At some point in accessing the memory it triggers the TDR which we all see. Although this thread is now 20 odd pages long if you go back and read it again there are a lot of individual solutions but "replacement Ram" crops up repeatedly. RAM is cheap at the moment (£25 for 4GB) so it's got to be worth a try for everyone else out there with this problem. Hope this helps someone JR - happy puppy, smaller wallet but 2 working PC's :)

This error can happen because of an outdated video driver, to many programs running at one time or even high CPU activity. There is a link to a KB article on the following post that gives more info on the issue and helps to fix it, see:
