  • Running Windows 7, 32-bi,t on a Lenovo W500. Display Driver: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650.
  • The error message (“display driver stopped responding & has recovered”) follows a system freeze, a short blackout. Then everything works fine.
  • Downloaded the most current driver from the company's Web site.
  • Seeemd to work for a day, but now I'm getting the same behavior.

Hello Crabby Office Lady,

This error can happen because of an outdated video driver, to many programs running at one time or even high CPU activity. There is a link to a KB article on the following post that gives more info on the issue and helps to fix it, see:

In the end, and after a lot of attempts at fixes, Dell accepted that there was a hardware fault with my video card.  The card was replaced, and there hasn't been a problem since.

So, I am afraid that , if you are having the same fault, do not rule out the possibility of a hardware fault.

    Hello,

I am having the same problem when I upgraded from Window 7 Home Premium to Windows 10. I have been in contact with NVIDIA about the display driver for my GeForce GT720 graphics card. After the upgrade I keep getting the "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" error with the latest driver. In fact, many of the newer window10 drivers do not work; these include 355.60; 353.62; 353.30. The only driver that works is a Windows 7 driver 347.88; many people are just using this driver because NVIDIA says it is a local issue and there newest drivers do not work with Windows 10 on a 32 bit machine. So, the NVIDIA driver 347.88 works great but the very helpful Window10 system keeps installing the latest version of the driver 7/22/2015 353.62 version; how can I stop Windows10 from putting this newer version on my machine? I keep installing 347.88 and it keeps getting updated.

    thanks
