  • Running Windows 7, 32-bi,t on a Lenovo W500. Display Driver: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650.
  • The error message (“display driver stopped responding & has recovered”) follows a system freeze, a short blackout. Then everything works fine.
  • Downloaded the most current driver from the company's Web site.
  • Seeemd to work for a day, but now I'm getting the same behavior.

Hello Crabby Office Lady,

This error can happen because of an outdated video driver, to many programs running at one time or even high CPU activity. There is a link to a KB article on the following post that gives more info on the issue and helps to fix it, see:

Just curious, have you tried to overclock the processor?

I had all the updates, shoot I even went back and put older drivers in at one point and still got this same error.

Then I took and overclocked the processor using MSI Afterburner.  As soon as my machine finishes booting up, I start MSI Afterburner.  I set the core clock and usually the computer will "lock" up (screen flickers etc.) ONE time.. and then after that. No more problems (until I shut down the computer and have to set it up again)

I gave up. Dude, I'm gettin' a Dell. I'll freeze my HP DV7 until they find a cure and then thaw it out. :-)

Halt! I have a Dell and the same problem here. It's an issue with Microsoft, not the computer.

I have a Toshiba so it is not just the laptop.  Microsoft let us all down.
