Running Windows 7, 32-bi,t on a Lenovo W500. Display Driver: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650. The error message (“display driver stopped responding & has recovered”) follows a system freeze, a short blackout. Then everything works fine. Downloaded the most current driver from the company's Web site. Seeemd to work for a day, but now I'm getting the same behavior. Crabby Office Lady

Ok guys, been doing tons of reading myself and was considering: Getting another PSU Replacing my memory sticks Replacing my GPU It turns out that it's a virus !!!! Never in a million years did I think this would be the problem. Turns out that it's a JAVA issue that hasn't been patched. Click your Windows button and type: msconfig Under "start up programs", you'll see an entry for "IEHIGHUTIL.exe". Make sure to UNCHECK the box so that it doesn't start up. Go to your C:\ drive and there should be a "Temporary" folder. Inside this folder you'll see some files, including IEHIGHUTIL, DELETE the folder ! Restart your computer and you'll be good to go. ZERO issues with my graphics card and the message "Display Driver stopped responding and has recovered" no longer comes up. Apparently a lot of anti-virus programs are not catching this little ****, including MSE which is what I have. Hope this helps, peace !

HI GUYS.I HAD A SAME PROBLEM FOR LONG TIME.I WAS SEARCHING ANSWERS EVERYWHERE .......BUT FINALLY I NOTICED THAT MY FAN IN MY LAPTOP IS BLOWING WARM OR EVEN HOT AIR.SO I OPENED ALL THE SCREWS .REMOVED MEMORY AND HARD DRIVE AND CLEANED MY FAN AND OTHER MOTHERBOARD DUSTY PARTS VERY CAREFULLY WITH "DUST OFF".I NOTICED THAT MY LAPTOPS FAN WAS FULL OF DUST.I CLEANED AS MUCH AS I COULD.SO AFTER 30 MIN WORK I TURNED MY LAPTOP ON AGAIN AND IT WAS WAY FASTER AND MY FAN IS BLOWING COOL AIR AND NO MORE DISPLAY ERROR MESSAGES,NO MORE BLACK DISPLAY AND NO MORE PROBLEMS. It's not a heating problem, I turned my computer off over night, just got on a few min ago, turned it on, “display driver stopped responding & has recovered”, poof, properly shut down, therefor it's more of a software problem, as Crabby Office Lady had stated.

This error can happen because of an outdated video driver, to many programs running at one time or even high CPU activity. There is a link to a KB article on the following post that gives more info on the issue and helps to fix it, see:
