“Display driver stopped responding and has recovered” error.

  • Running Windows 7, 32-bi,t on a Lenovo W500. Display Driver: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650.
  • The error message (“display driver stopped responding & has recovered”) follows a system freeze, a short blackout. Then everything works fine.
  • Downloaded the most current driver from the company's Web site.
  • Seeemd to work for a day, but now I'm getting the same behavior.

Hello Crabby Office Lady,

This error can happen because of an outdated video driver, to many programs running at one time or even high CPU activity. There is a link to a KB article on the following post that gives more info on the issue and helps to fix it, see:

    NOT FIXED! I rolled back the driver. I'm using a generic windows driver from 2006. The screen goes fuzzy but I still have functionality so I'm able to hibernate and not lose anything. It's very intermittent. I can't be sure what causes it to fuzz out. It could be a virus and there it goes so I'll post this and be done.

    Didn't have any issues until I installed my GeForce 650ti, but maybe it just doesn't configure well with the FireFox plugins?  Who knows, but I'll give it a try.  Hate IE, so I might try Chrome.

    Everything was running fine and no problems until I installed Firefox browser. Then it happened immediatly. I immediatly uninstalled it and haven't had a problem since. That was a couple of hours ago. I'm still not satisfied that the problem is gone but we shall see. I'll post updates and if no problems occure i'll try firefox again and see if that was my issue.

    No mate do not leave any trace of any program's or games or utilities.  Because it is one if them that's giving you the issue.

    Simply wipe ur machine out totally and then install drivers for your motherboard and also install graphics driver .

    Then leave it and just browse the Internet normally without downloading anything including java or flash.

    Test it for about 24 hours and then see what happens , I'll guarantee u that it will work perfectly. Then when u start to put stuff back onto ur machine do it bit by bit and then I would say you will come across the infected software and u will know exactly what it is that's upsetting your machine . So u know NOT to install that particular piece of software.   However you will then have to re-install windows all over again.

    It's very much trial and error mate.
