Running Windows 7, 32-bi,t on a Lenovo W500. Display Driver: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650. The error message (“display driver stopped responding & has recovered”) follows a system freeze, a short blackout. Then everything works fine. Right Just checked C:/Nvidia/Display folder where the drivers are located..... The old driver and its components are not removed from the computer so it seems Win 7 is switching the drivers back to the old ones !!!!. I've deleted it now so hopefully the newly installed driver should run ok. If i dont post here again it means the issue is fixed for me.

Just run the Nividia Auto detect graphics card to download drivers... Even though the program panel tells me the driver is 270.61(latest) .. Nvidia Geforce website tells me its running on the old driver 258 !!!!!!!! this could be the error. I'd suggest everyone removes all Nvidia graphics Drivers.. ALL OF THEM then reinstall everyone again. This includes ATI too!

This error only appeared for me when I installed windows 7 a week ago. Not once did it happen on Vista SP2 fully updated and thats with the same driver version, obiviously different operating system drivers though. WIN 7 must have the same old compatabillity issues that vista had when it was first launched. This is now starting to cause my Graphic Card to fail ( random glyphs and symbols appeared during boot up this morning) so im not happy!. Am going to remove the display driver and reinstall and freshly downloaded version.

Brand new HP computer with: Win 7 64-bit 1GB DDR3 NVIDIA GeForce 405 6GB DDR3-1333MHz SDRAM 1TB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2300 quad-core processor [2.8GHz, 6MB cache] 300 Watt PSU HP Customer Service tried some troubleshooting such as updating latest display driver, and system recovery. They said the PSU might be too low because I added an extra internal hard drive and an extra stick of RAM. I removed my second internal hard drive and the extra stick of RAM and after one day of use so far, no display driver error. I'm hoping it IS my PSU which means I'd have to get a stronger PSU, but then again I'll be disappointed knowing this computer under the "High Performance" category on HP's website can't handle a second internal hard drive and an extra stick of RAM. Does anyone know if 300watts is not enough for two internal HDD's?

This error can happen because of an outdated video driver, to many programs running at one time or even high CPU activity. There is a link to a KB article on the following post that gives more info on the issue and helps to fix it, see:
