“Display driver stopped responding and has recovered” error.

  • Running Windows 7, 32-bi,t on a Lenovo W500. Display Driver: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650.
  • The error message (“display driver stopped responding & has recovered”) follows a system freeze, a short blackout. Then everything works fine.
  • Downloaded the most current driver from the company's Web site.
  • Seeemd to work for a day, but now I'm getting the same behavior.

Hello Crabby Office Lady,

This error can happen because of an outdated video driver, to many programs running at one time or even high CPU activity. There is a link to a KB article on the following post that gives more info on the issue and helps to fix it, see:

    Yes, same problem here, brand new dell xps running windows 7 64 bit with i7 processor. Not overheated either.  I have been surfing around, this has been an ongoing issue for over 2 years with the introduction of vista.  Multitudes of folks out there going crazy trying to figure it out to no avail.

    The only solutions so far are to cripple your display settings, but even that doesn't always work. I refuse to do that. How about a real fix please?

    Also, many folks who upgraded from XP and never had a problem beforehand. Now they do. So stop trying to blame it on the hardware.

    Typical.

    I am having the exact same problem but with a different computer.

    Mine is an almost new Samsung N110 netbook. This happens every now and then and have no idea why.

    It's definitely not running hot as a lot of the underneath is cool to the touch.

    I have the same problem with a Lenovo T60p with a ATI Mobility Radeon X1300.  I found when downloading it does it mostly.

    1. Go to Control Panel -> Devices Manager

    Have You got there any yellow signs?
