Disk Management Console view is not up-to-date.

I had the same problem

I get a tool called Acronis Disk Director Suite

setup the software then open it

right click on the partition without letter > Advanced > Convert

choose NTFS and if the partition is primary choose logical and vice versa

then apply changes

after that right click on the same partition > Change Letter

ALL YOUR DATA IS SAFE NO NEED TO PANIC

I went to do something with partition magic (it recognized something with the pointers I believe, so I allowed it to automatically fix the error) and now I'm not even able to access Partition Disk #0, Partition #1 which is a drive that I used to store data (No OS).  It doesn't appear in 'My Computer', but does appear in Disk Management but it doesn't seem like I can do anything with it besides delete the partition.  There's a lot of data that I have stored and I don't want to lose it all.

I used a partition tool to find out what sectors each of the partitions are starting at and for one of them it's sector 15 and the other it is sector 33.  I'm not sure if that has any significance to my problem, but just thought I'd let it be known.

• Program: Disk Managemet
• Error Message: "The operation failed to complete because the Disk Management console view is not up-to-date.  Refresh the view by using the refresh task.  If the problem persists close the Disk Management console, then restart Disk Management or restart the computer.

 

I had the same problem - drives D & E dissapeared after I simply launched Partition Magic 8 on Windows 7 64bit. Upon start, Partition Magic happily announced me that it found some "problems" on these drives and fixed them for me (such a nice fellow, this Partition Magic!...)  After rebooting, the drives were gone. The Windows Disk Management was seeing the drives, with no letters assigned, but wouldn't let me assign letters to them (the "Refresh..." error above)

    HOW I FIXED IT:

• I downloaded and burned the MiniTool Partition Wizard Boot CD
• I booted into it, selected drive D and chose "Set as active"

After rebooting into Windows, both the D and the E drive were  available again.

This is the best and 110% accurate solution to solve this hectic problem. Just follow the instructions and you will get back your partition(s) with all the data safe and sound.
