I went to do something with partition magic (it recognized something with the pointers I believe, so I allowed it to automatically fix the error) and now I'm not even able to access Partition Disk #0, Partition #1 which is a drive that I used to store data (No OS). It doesn't appear in 'My Computer', but does appear in Disk Management but it doesn't seem like I can do anything with it besides delete the partition. There's a lot of data that I have stored and I don't want to lose it all.

I used a partition tool to find out what sectors each of the partitions are starting at and for one of them it's sector 15 and the other it is sector 33. I'm not sure if that has any significance to my problem, but just thought I'd let it be known.

Error Message: "The operation failed to complete because the Disk Management console view is not up-to-date. Refresh the view by using the refresh task. If the problem persists close the Disk Management console, then restart Disk Management or restart the computer.

I solved this problem by going into device manager and uninstalling the usb drivers. Then when I plugged the hard drive back in it reinstalled the driver and worked.

Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Answers Community.

Try using diskpart to assign a drive letter to Disk #0, Partition #1.

· Click Start Orb > type diskpart

· Right-click diskpart in results above > click Run as administrator

· Once diskpart loads type list volume, press enter

You should notice that you will see your partition that you use for your data, it should not show a drive letter assigned to it.

· Type select volume 6 **** (replace 6 with the volume number assigned to the partition in question)

· Type assign letter Z (replace Z with the letter that you want to assign to it)

When you look in Computer, you should be able to see your partition.

Ironic, I just thanked you and all for your help. My problem is partially solved.

My HDD is assigned a letter, and it shows in my computer and my files are accessable, BUT in disk management it is still blank, no letter assigned and right-click only shows "help". Here is the issue, everytime I unplug my device, plug it in again, It returns to "multimedia 0620" when it should be name "WD elements play" which it is named when i assign it a letter again. I will be running out of letters soon if I do not keep the computer turned on 7 days a week and the hard drive plugged in, since windows does not forget the drive, and therefore not the letter either.

Thank you so much chris, searched every forum but no one seemed to understand the problem, My disk would not show up on my computer but would show under disk management as a healthy disk, partitioned and all, it would even say that it was 100% free.. and I could not do anything from disk management except read "help" when I right clicked. I understand computers but this was completely new. But your method saved the day.

Thank You so much for the suggestion!!! I'm much relieved after seeing my missing drive...

According to the suggestion given I downloaded Acronis Disk Director Suite Home 11.0.216 .....But there when i right clicked on my missing drive I didn't find the Advanced(what's its called I'm unaware)...So, I thought of not taking any risk by simply selecting the other options which poped out after I right clicked..... So, could you please help me with this problem.....I don't know what to do next after that...and yes my missing drive is a logical one..
