I went to do something with partition magic (it recognized something with the pointers I believe, so I allowed it to automatically fix the error) and now I'm not even able to access Partition Disk #0, Partition #1 which is a drive that I used to store data (No OS). It doesn't appear in 'My Computer', but does appear in Disk Management but it doesn't seem like I can do anything with it besides delete the partition. There's a lot of data that I have stored and I don't want to lose it all.

I used a partition tool to find out what sectors each of the partitions are starting at and for one of them it's sector 15 and the other it is sector 33. I'm not sure if that has any significance to my problem, but just thought I'd let it be known.

Error Message: "The operation failed to complete because the Disk Management console view is not up-to-date. Refresh the view by using the refresh task. If the problem persists close the Disk Management console, then restart Disk Management or restart the computer.

I solved this problem by going into device manager and uninstalling the usb drivers. Then when I plugged the hard drive back in it reinstalled the driver and worked.

Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Answers Community.

Try using diskpart to assign a drive letter to Disk #0, Partition #1.

· Click Start Orb > type diskpart

· Right-click diskpart in results above > click Run as administrator

· Once diskpart loads type list volume, press enter

You should notice that you will see your partition that you use for your data, it should not show a drive letter assigned to it.

· Type select volume 6 **** (replace 6 with the volume number assigned to the partition in question)

· Type assign letter Z (replace Z with the letter that you want to assign to it)

When you look in Computer, you should be able to see your partition.

I did as you suggested but its driver is installed nicely and still not shown in explorer

so great - works, win 7 is such a pain to me! i like my XP more and more because it just works. how come microsoft can't put this on their website instead of the generic mush they have with no real solution. thanks so much.

Dears ,

it seems from the post date (there are more than two years :) ) but I faced the same problem ..

and want to share the solution with you as a reference for future solution ..

First of all I had this problem with external hard disk after accepting the applying change for New Sector Number calculated by partition magic tool which I hate it too much after this massive error (I guess this problem maight occur for internal hard disks as well ) then I did not format the disappeared partition and tried diskpart tool and no solution .. also different tools for MBR and other stuff.

finally I tried this software "Partition Wizard Technician Edition" ..

install it ..

open and right click on your partition --> rename it

restart is required to complete the task .. just restart the PC after applying the changes (renaming)

black screen will appeared and the task of renaming will start ..

then PC will restart

and what after ?? just your partition will appear again in "My Computer"

I know the feeling after finally can access all data that were in prison :)

Note:

Be patient and never format or make merege or shrink the other partitions

I also had the issue with partition magic and i tried all of solutions in this post but last what i tried was the partition wizard and i run it from my laptop,not from boot cd or boot disk,then i set active the partition with missing leter,and then set back the right partition as active,after that i applied changes and then laptop restarted and now im getting the message that an operating system wasn't found.Try disconnecting any drives...When i boot in Kali Linux from Kali bootable usb i can see all my partitions and all data on it.So is there any help without backup and reinstalling windows please?
