I'm yet another person with the same problem. I have a Toshiba laptop that's about 3-4 years old and using Windows XP Home Edition.
This is what happened:
Installed automatic updates as I was turning off laptop and when I tried booting Windows, I got a blue screen stating: 'PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA' and 'STOP: 0x00000050 (0xBFE4FFC5, 0x00000001, 0x805144BA, 0x00000002)'
So then I tried to boot it from the XP CD, but as it was loading I got another blue screen but with a different message saying:
STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0xF76450BF, 0xF7A91208, OxF7A90F08)
pci.sys - Address F76450 base at F76E000, DateStamp 3b7d855c
Called Microsoft support, but all they gave me was 1. Contact Toshiba because they configured Windows onto my laptop (got it when I bought my laptop) or 2. Pay $59 plus taxes to get it fixed. I even mentioned that this problem was due to an update and she just
repeated what she had said earlier. I'm sorry, but I think this is completely Microsoft's fault and they should provide free service to fix this problem especially when this is happening to a lot of users. So I sent in an online report and hopefully I get
an answer back and get this fixed. If not, I'm going to definitely give them heck for this.
So while I'm here, anyone know how to fix my problem in particular?
