Me too got into this BSOD problem. After the update on Feb 11, the vista showed me up the blue screen. Even the automatic restore to repair the issue was unsuccessful. I am sceptical whether is it as issue with some rootkit/ update itself. For the last
two weeks, I am having a really tough time with windows with malware's and virus. A week before my system got infected by 'Vista Antispyware 2010'. Sounds crazy? . A malware having this name. I don't know how it got installed in my PC. I don't run as administrator
and have the user access control enabled. Followed every safety standards prescribed by Microsoft. Firewall turned on, antivirus(avast) installed, windows defender turned on. etc., When I rebooted at that time. I saw that malware showing its name in the 'antivirus
installed on this computer'. To my surprise, firewall turned off, updates turned off and avast not able to function properly. I nearly wasted a day to remove that malware from my system. I used malwarebytes- antimalware to remove that. After that it went fine
till Feb 11.
After automatic update it end up with BSOD. WTF!? How can I spend one full day every week to maintain the OS.
To me even if every safety practice is followed, Windows is still vulnerable to hackers and every kind of virus. The following are the MS major flaws,
- Windows didn't protect you/me. Microsoft security essentials and windows defender works only for a few range of attacks. So, still the protection is based on third party anti-virus programs in which reasonable programs cost you money.
- Windows and Anti-virus programs couldn't be able to protect its own kernel and system files from the attacks. So, forgot about identity theft, malware, virus attack which runs parallel to system task.
Honestly, I used Windows for nearly 7 years till Feb 11 until the BSOD attack happened. I don't like to reinstall the OS. I already had Ubuntu Linux in my dual boot. So, the following solution worked for me.
Booted my system using Ubuntu. Formatted the Windows drive. Got 30 GB extra free space :)
