Microsoft Picture It incompatability with Windows 7 and alternatives for .mix files.

I have been using Microsoft Picture It for years to design tons of graphics for my business and now I have purchased a new pc loaded with Windows 7 and find that my true love Picture It! is not compatable.  I never dreamed this would be the case for a software that isn't even a decade old or that new pc I just spent thousands on would be sitting right back at the store it came from.  I really feel that Microsoft has cheated me out of something I paid for and invested so much work in by making it unusable and it has brought my small business to a standstill.  What other program is available that is compatable with Windows 7 that will allow me to edit and view existing .mix and other Picture It! format files and contain all the capabilities of Picture It?  I would be willing to purchase additional software from Microsoft to make Picture It compatable to Windows 7 if necessary.

Hello all,

I know that you are all disappointed that Microsoft Picture It is not compatible with Windows 7. 

Your feedback would be better heard if you send it to the Windows 7 Feedback site.

These are your options when software is not compatible:

If the program is not compatible, then you may try to install and run the program in compatibility mode.

Use the following steps:

1)      Right click on the Program

2)      Click on Properties

3)      Click on Compatibility tab

4)      Select Run this program in compatibility mode and select Windows XP, Windows Vista or whatever operating system the program was running successfully.

If you run Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate version, install Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP mode (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/default.aspx) and execute your software in Windows XP.

If you run Windows 7 Home Premium, try VirtualBox (www.virtualbox.org) or VMware Player

(www.vmware.com) or any other 3party virtualization software and install a separate copy of Windows XP (either Home Edition or Professional) for that purpose. You can find virtualization software free of charge that will run on Windows 7 Home Premium.

    Thank you!!  I hope this will lead to Microsoft taking corrective measures so those of us who have creative ideas can bring those ideas into very real vibrant projects! The reality of programs that worked over 15 years ago should be able and have at least the ease of access that older programs offered! As successful as this corporation has been speaks very loudly to the lack of working media programs in existence now in 2016! Your comment speaks to this issue very well. Hope the people in the ivory towers will take a look at bringing back competition, or risk the creation of completely new entities that will not take their eye off the ball, but will create new accessible modes of operation, and will attract the hundreds of people frustrated with the current stagnation that is prevalent in today's market. Microsoft and Apple cannot continue to have such a grip on this market. It is time for a change!

    19I don't think v99 ever worked with Windows 7. I honestly can't remember if it ever worked with XP, but of course, it did work beautifully under Windows 98.

    Have you tried Picture It 2000? I can use it under both Windows 7 and Windows 10, but everything take much longer, and I have to do everything through the workbench tab, as the projects tab doesn't work.

    So far, I'm keeping a couple of older computers alive and going under XP so I can get all I can out of Picture It 2000.

    It just STINKS that Microsoft claims to be so great, and yet they REFUSE to provide an update or even a patch for the best program they ever made. Nothing else they have offered has ever done the same jobs.

    We have been using Picture It 99 with Windows 7 without any problems, but recently installed Windows 10 and to our surprise lol, does not work. I have set properties to run as administrator and  tried compatibility mode for Win 7, XP, and even 98. Several hours of research to basically find out that software purchased is like my Bic lighter , disposable.

    I could understand if we were speaking of third party software but when my microsoft OS does not allow me to run my microsoft software , there is a problem.

    Right click and install as administrator. when you want to use it, right click and run as admin...works on windows 7, 8, and 10.
