Microsoft Picture It incompatability with Windows 7 and alternatives for .mix files.

I think a very bare bones version of PhotoDraw used to be included in Microsoft Publisher, too. At least, there used to be an embedded program I used to edit graphics without leaving Publisher; it would break apart, reshape, and recolor objects so I could change the way a piece of clip art looked.

I checked on Amazon, and V 2 starts at  $119.97 for the boxed set.

Hi, and sorry you have encountered this problem. 

I have been concerned my self about future incompatibilities with an even older Microsoft photo-editing and graphics suite I have come to rely on these past sixteen years or so and that I prefer for most functions, over Photoshop for its versatility and speed along with the more intuitive interface. 

The program I have been using and remains my favorite by a long shot, is PhotoDraw .V2, (or version 2) from the Office 2000 Premium Suite.

They come up available every so often on eBay at very affordable prices 

I've had no comparability issues at all, running it on Windows-7, 32-bit or 64-bit although I seem to remember that it may not be compatible with Windows-8 and higher. 

While installing it, I would recommend creating a unique program-folder such as 'MS-PhotoDraw' so that your programs don't get confused st it will try to install as part of any other Microsoft Office suite and you don't want that unless you are running Office-2000. 

Also while installing it, I would recommend using the custom install, both to direct the installation to your unique program folder while also choosing "run all from my computer" within the installation options. That way, it will load disk #2 as well so that you won't have to insert it each time - or - you can copy the contends of disk-2 to another folder such as my pictures or downloads and have PhotoDraw look there from the options or tools menu after your installation. I've just installed Windows 10 on a new computer,

and I'll try this weekend to install my Picture It 7.0 (along with Microsoft Works Suite 2003) - and see what happens...

Like I said before,

I installed Picture It 7 with MWS a few weeks ago on Windows 7 home premium and much to my own surprise (AND HAPPINESS) it worked! I was so happy after having to do without it for about 3 years or so.

But this is gonna keep being a problem, since windows is gonna keep upgrading and Microsoft has abandoned Picture It.

So join our Picture It site,

for all of us together we can try and get Picture It back as standard Microsoft Software OR, if they wont' do that,

the very least they can do is give the code for open source editing.

Some people think they already know the solution, might have to do with the IE5 Code or something,

so it can be done and after all, that is pretty much how Picture It Started out in the first place.

Let's all make a plead!
