Microsoft Picture It incompatability with Windows 7 and alternatives for .mix files.

I have been using Microsoft Picture It for years to design tons of graphics for my business and now I have purchased a new pc loaded with Windows 7 and find that my true love Picture It! is not compatable.  I never dreamed this would be the case for a software that isn't even a decade old or that new pc I just spent thousands on would be sitting right back at the store it came from.  I really feel that Microsoft has cheated me out of something I paid for and invested so much work in by making it unusable and it has brought my small business to a standstill.  What other program is available that is compatable with Windows 7 that will allow me to edit and view existing .mix and other Picture It! format files and contain all the capabilities of Picture It?  I would be willing to purchase additional software from Microsoft to make Picture It compatable to Windows 7 if necessary.

Hello all,

I know that you are all disappointed that Microsoft Picture It is not compatible with Windows 7. 

Your feedback would be better heard if you send it to the Windows 7 Feedback site.

These are your options when software is not compatible:

If the program is not compatible, then you may try to install and run the program in compatibility mode.

Use the following steps:

1)      Right click on the Program

2)      Click on Properties

3)      Click on Compatibility tab

4)      Select Run this program in compatibility mode and select Windows XP, Windows Vista or whatever operating system the program was running successfully.

If you run Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate version, install Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP mode (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/default.aspx) and execute your software in Windows XP.

If you run Windows 7 Home Premium, try VirtualBox (www.virtualbox.org) or VMware Player

(www.vmware.com) or any other 3party virtualization software and install a separate copy of Windows XP (either Home Edition or Professional) for that purpose. You can find virtualization software free of charge that will run on Windows 7 Home Premium.

    I upgraded from 7 to 10 without a hitch.   Everything, including picture it was uploaded.   Like the 10 photo app for minor adjustments and a number of free apps for photo editing.  

    Just a novice but liked this, needs some work.

    I also still have my old computer with the XP program .  I use my Light Scribe to make DVD labels right on the disc - I miss that on my new computer with  Windows 7. I also do not connect to the

    internet with XP.  I use my Picture It, but wonder if I could hook it up with the same printer I use for Windows 7? I haven't explored that possibility. I would like to  print out what I have edited. I have been using a program called Photo Scape with Windows 7 - I have not found half the stuff that I had on Picture It. This is really frustrating.

    I am also thinking of installing Windows 10, but don't know how much of what I have in photos I might lose, if any.

    I have been using Picture It! Platinum 2001 for a couple of years as follows:

    1.  I installed it on my computer running Windows 7. It installed and I can use it to edit and print existing Picture It! files (which I imported from my previous computer running Windows XP) by clicking on the existing file. However, I cannot open Picture It! directly, nor can I create a new file. (When I try to do this, the app hangs.) Once I have an existing (including edited) file open, I can print it with a printer (Canon) installed on the new computer with Windows 7.
    2.  I kept my old computer with Windows XP and Picture It!. When I want to create a new Picture It! file, I start up Picture It! on this computer running XP and create the new file. Then I port the file to my new computer running Windows 7 via a USB flash drive. Then, I can edit and/or print it as in 1. above.

    This is a hassle requiring two computers, but it does work. Since XP is no longer supported by MS, I do not ever connect my old computer to the internet. In fact, I only keep it to run Picture It!, as well as a scanner that I use to scan a photo or graphic for the new Picture It! file. I suppose that if and when the old computer breaks, I will have to get another computer and load XP onto it, or maybe I can run XP in compatibility mode as suggested elsewhere in this thread.

    Now I am facing the question as to whether I can upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and continue to operate as described above. I'm not willing to experiment as long as MS continues to support Windows 7. I agree that all this workaround would be avoided if MS provided an upgraded version of Picture It!, but that's wishful thinking...

    Tried to order Picture It 9 old version on Amazon.com BUT,

    they won't ship to Europe.....

    Picture it premium 10 is a possibility but I don't know about these premium versions.

    Anybody any ideas, does Picture It Premium 10 come with the same features as cut outs, melting, etc.??
