I have a problem with Windows 7 and my KVM switch (Iogear model# gcs1764) which is makes switching via KVM an absolute nightmare. The iogear KVM does not use drivers nor are any available on their website.
Here's what happens:
I switch from Win 7 (2 monitors) to XP (1 monitor) via KVM. When I switch back to Win 7 (2 monitors) sometimes Win 7 will throw my desktop to the 2nd monitor (1st monitor goes blank) and opening up display settings only shows the 2nd monitor as existing. It's as if the 1st monitor is now unplugged which it isn't. At this point I have to go into display settings, click Detect, and then it re-detects my 1st monitor and "extends" my desktop back out over 2 monitors. All windows have now been thrown to my 1st monitor and i have to rearrange all my work back across 2 monitors. This is why KVM switching in Win 7 makes my work life a living nightmare. This isn't all of it either...
When everything gets thrown to my first monitor, it takes any windows that were maximized and resizes them to about 1/4 my screen size. Due to compatibility issues between Win 7 and SQL Server Management Studio, Management Studio has a redraw bug that doesn't "re-size" the query window correctly. So even though I maximize the app, when I start typing in the query window my text disappears about 1/4 the way across the whole window. The only way to fix this is to save all my work, close the app, and then re-open the app with all my work. So basically every time I switch computers there's about a 1/5 chance I have rinse and repeat everything I just typed above. Fun times.
So are there any future fixes planned for this? I have tried everything and nothing fixes this problem. I have all the latest Nvidia drivers (my card: Nvidia GTS 250).

I've now received a reply from technical support and been told that there is no intention of fixing the fault.
Did they acknowledge the fault exists?
Did they offer a reason why they will not be fixing it?
Unfortunately this could mean any of 100 different things depending what was behind you being told you won't be helped.
I know its not about a kvm switcher, but many people have had the same sort of problem when running the ATi 5### series in eyefinity with a displayport to vga passive adapter.
My setup is: new computer built in the last 2 weeks =D
AMD Phenom II x4 B55 BE @ 4.2GHz
ATi 5770 stock + NVidia 8800GTS 640mb stock
MA790X-UD3P Gigabyte
arctic cooler 64 pro with arctic silver 5
coolermaster silent pro 700W and scout case
Samsung F3 1Tb
Generic 800mhz RAM 4gb
Windows 7 x32 (for now)
3x lg flatron w2261vp
And I've found when running 3 x LG W2261VP through 2xDVI and 1xDisplay port to VGA adapter that the displayport is always acting odd, try entering or exiting eyefinity from catalyst control and the windows hardware remove and add noise occurs followed by teh displayport screen defaulting to 800x640 and eyefinity subsequently not working. Device manager picks it up as non-generic pnp monitor and doesn't work, if i then run windows screen resolution and detect screens i can tehn select 1920x1080 on the displatport and extend the display on the dvi monitors which often get disconnected at detect.
Strangely this didn' happen when i first got the card, spent awhile getting the 8800 to work with it and activate physx, then received the adapter plugged it in and everything worked, played a few games, empire total war, dirt2, grid, left 4 dead, with everything working fine. Then 1 boot up later (because i left the pc and it went to sleep and displayport monitor wouldn't wake up again) and the display port started as 800x640 and catalyst control would crash whenever I tried running eyefinity.
So i found lots of forums with people having the same problem and thinking it was due to bad adapters or a bad ati card, but one post pointed me to this forum and the reference to the regedit for the EDID_OVERRIDE did the trick almost immediatley. Simple fix considering i've never used a registry editting tool before, jsut had to remember bits to bytes conversion lol. So we need to keep this forum page going so hopefully microsoft will realise a majority of their primary market demand a fix, and they'll get of their a**** and do something about this very frequent problem.

Yup. Shows you just how much MS is dedicated to making Windows the best product possible for their clients. Monopolies suck. I hope MS continue to get sued over that until the end of times...
Can you imagine a company other that MS telling their customers that the fault they've created in their own product will not be fixed because... LOL ...well, they wouldn't actually bother telling you why. You'd have to guess that it's because their business partners are more important to them than their actual clients. I mean WTF?! :+o
