KVM switch + Windows 7 creates monitor switching nightmare

Unfortunately - one of the ports on my TK-803R died today :(

While it's under warranty - I would be without a switch while I waited for mine to ship off and be returned so I decided to look at possibly purchasing a new one.  I started searching for "Windows 7 Compatble KVM's" since the Connect Pro's don't have a > 4 port unit.

In it - KVM Pro (who has posted numerous times on various related posts - including this one <and he works for ConnectPro>) states the following:  ConnectPRO new UR-12+ or UR-14+ models with USB DDM technology which provide true USB device mapping to each connected systems. This USB DDM patented technology is the only solution for sharing among Windows 7 systems.

If this is true - that means that only KVM Pro's company's units (Connect Pro) will be Windows 7 Compatible... (Other than using the seperate emulator between systems and KVM's).

Now I'm not a lawyer (any out there wish to comment) - but this sure sounds like monopolizing to me...  Either way this is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE...  If I were Trendnet, and all the other KVM Manufacturers, I would be lobbying Microsoft to fix this (and definetely checking with their lawyers)..

I also happened to notice a Zonet KVM with a Windows 7 Compatible sticker on it at Fry's.  I can't find anything online that confirms that they do/do not have Full Time/Active DDC - so I have sent a tech support request to them (and included the link for this post) to find out.  http://www.zonetusa.com/supports-44.aspx

If the statement from KVM Pro is correct - then I can't see these being truly Windows 7 Compatbile.

Yup. Shows you just how much MS is dedicated to making Windows the best product possible for their clients. Monopolies suck. I hope MS continue to get sued over that until the end of times...

Can you imagine a company other that MS telling their customers that the fault they've created in their own product will not be fixed because... LOL ...well, they wouldn't actually bother telling you why. You'd have to guess that it's because their business partners are more important to them than their actual clients. I mean WTF?! :+o

what you need to do is get rid of your crappy windows machine and buy 1 that actually has a stable operating system. hmmmmmm Mac sure is looking good these days!!!!!!!!! I know its not about a kvm switcher, but many people have had the same sort of problem when running the ATi 5### series in eyefinity with a displayport to vga passive adapter.

My setup is: new computer built in the last 2 weeks =D

AMD Phenom II x4 B55 BE @ 4.2GHz

ATi 5770 stock  +  NVidia 8800GTS 640mb stock

MA790X-UD3P Gigabyte

arctic cooler 64 pro with arctic silver 5

coolermaster silent pro 700W and scout case

Samsung F3 1Tb

Generic 800mhz RAM 4gb

Windows 7 x32 (for now)

3x lg flatron w2261vp

And I've found when running 3 x LG W2261VP through 2xDVI and 1xDisplay port to VGA adapter that the displayport is always acting odd, try entering or exiting eyefinity from catalyst control and the windows hardware remove and add noise occurs followed by teh displayport screen defaulting to 800x640 and eyefinity subsequently not working. Device manager picks it up as non-generic pnp monitor and doesn't work, if i then run windows screen resolution and detect screens i can tehn select 1920x1080 on the displatport and extend the display on the dvi monitors which often get disconnected at detect.

Strangely this didn' happen when i first got the card, spent awhile getting the 8800 to work with it and activate physx, then received the adapter plugged it in and everything worked, played a few games, empire total war, dirt2, grid, left 4 dead, with everything working fine. Then 1 boot up later (because i left the pc and it went to sleep and displayport monitor wouldn't wake up again) and the display port started as 800x640 and catalyst control would crash whenever I tried running eyefinity.

So i found lots of forums with people having the same problem and thinking it was due to bad adapters or a bad ati card, but one post pointed me to this forum and the reference to the regedit for the EDID_OVERRIDE did the trick almost immediatley. Simple fix considering i've never  used a registry editting tool before, jsut had to remember bits to bytes conversion lol. So we need to keep this forum page going so hopefully microsoft will realise a majority of their primary market demand a fix, and they'll get of their a**** and do something about this very frequent problem.
