Schannel Error 36888

The messages disappear, but the issue does not. I am not sure that that turning a blind eye is a good idea. I'd rather know there is something wrong.

I'm with Albert, I would rather be bothered by the warnings, than the consequences of ignoring all of them. If you don't know somethings wrong how can you address it. Like we are here.

Even if we cant fix Micro$oft's O/S or servers (which as from other posts, I glean is the problem) causing this & a few of my other error/warnings what can we do?

Though Outlook 2010 (no m$ surprise) is the only thing on that above list that I use, or have installed,

I have read that secure web sites are also a cause, but have not verified that.

I'm too busy fixing HUGE Windows 8.1 pro 64 O/S problems to track down minor issues such as this.

And since MS tech has abandoned me, after 6 techs having some 14 hours of remotely accessing my machine for other issues, I am here & on other forums researching these many lingering things.   But...

Considering my O/S is also changing saved .jpgs to ones from other folders - sChannel is REALLY Minor,

considering I could inadvertantly send my boss a porn image instead of the work site photo requested!

Although I am a retired IT mgr; I am basically a novice in this age of malware and complex OS, so this is more uninteresting venting than anything. Sorry in advance...

I (too) get regular errors on Windows 7 PC of "schannel 36887 The following fatal alert was received: 80." - I have not correlated it to any PC usage thus far, but I do use Chrome and IE and Windows Live, among other things mentioned in conjunction with schannel errors.

In recent months I have been bothered mainly with numerous episodes of "not responding" slowness lasting 2-10 minutes without any apparent regard to PC tasks or activity.  There was a time when this activity correlated to Norton360.exe (free  security suite from my Comcast ISP) hogging CPU and memory in the task list at 40-60% CPU for 2-10 minutes; a) Symantec ran a bunch of remote-assisted checks and clean-ups, and basically said all was well with Norton and sort of admitted this could be a normal side-effect of Norton, b) this (N360.exe hog) has ceased in recent weeks, as the Task List shows nothing really hogging CPU and memory when the "not responding" occurs.

These episodes seem to be more frequent in recent weeks...  3-6 times per week or more. I could be in Windows Live mail composing, Chrome or IE browsing, Comcast.net reading the news, whatever.  The screen of the application I am in slows or freezes (sometimes alternating) and IF i can switch to another app, the slowness is there as well. Even Task List. Once I do get to Task List and have some ability to (slowly) do anything, I review hogging, and cease various services or applns or such with END TASK.

Eventually the episodes "pass", things returning to normal. I can't relate it to anything in particular i halt or end, although if I close enough activity, especially chrome and IE and Windows Live Mail, the PC will act normal.

I have noticed hundreds of users have reported variations of this slow-troublesome-pc  situation. Always, malware adware and viruses are suspected; sometimes something more interesting like MS dyslexic right-click menu is blamed.  Some of the help sites of course are trying to scam you or get money. All generally have you run malwarebytes adaware and lotsa other stuff, the latest version of the hIjack-this problem-solving world. And many reload or reinstall system or applications.

Although it is hard to claim "i'm  really clean and better" after any remedial efforts due to the intermittent nature of the issues, many indeed do benefit and report (at least temporarily) some relief. My impression it is that it is mostly coincidental and short-lived, but no real proof of that exists. FWIW I have run all the Malwarebytes and Adaware and other tools ad nauseum, as well as keeping up to date with many AV safety scans and protections, ALL TO NO AVAIL.

I notice many of those with these problems report issues (that I share) with Chrome (multiple mini-sessions apparently live in the task list although only 1 is intended to be active), Norton (oh that busy Internet Security engine with background tasks and more), and Comcast (talk about ad-aware targeted IE busy little bees at work) being the most common aspects folks with problems share...

...so I have taken to microscopically reviewing activity on my PC especially the Event Log records.  Looking for errors or notifications that might shed some light on the "not responding" intermittent slowness and freeze-ups.  That is how I came to this SCHANNEL issue...

...you can find numerous reports of the SCHANNEL error message on the web; nowhere does it ever get satisfactorily explained and addressed.  Most instances of SCHANNEL errors on the web are from folks following the Malware-Bleep guidance and running tools and posting the logs... why do hundreds of these afflicted users have the SCHANNEL ERROR in their logs? No one has said!!!

I am watching CNN as I type this. They are reporting on the man in Colorado who (was arrested for and) shot his bleeping DELL PC in an alley today cause he was fed up. LOL.  I am not about to do that yet.  I just wish for venting relief here but welcome comments. Especially if they will allow me to rule out the SCHANNEL ERRORS as a cause of my intermittent freezeups! Thanks.

However, the poster seems to suggest that the error messages can be ignored but is unable to address the fact that something, somewhere is shouting "Error" !  HIs reference to the firewall hole or ISS may be letting the error messages in, and therefore the source might be traced back thru unexplained holes in the firewall or something having to do with ISS.
