Schannel Error 36888

I am getting this Schannel Error 36888 over and over and over again. There NOTHING listed on the help site about it. I have no idea what it is, but my computer is crashing over and over again. I don't know if this is the reason, but it seems to be the most frequent event listed in the event viewer.

I restored my computer to the image I made after the initial installation back in July, and did this only after going back to restore points to 12/6/09.

It does not seem to be a Windows O/S issue or else these various restores would have fixed it. Nothing else has changed though. No new hardware added and any external devices I did have connected, I have disconnected to rule them out. All I have connected is one external hard drive (which I need for my backups) and the keyboard and mouse.

The computer goes to a blue screen, usually after doing something like opening Windows Explorer or something like that. Just sitting idle, it doesn't seem to happen. Or at least not as often.

What is Schannel Error 36888. I found posting on different sites but none that are conclusive or tell me what EXCATLY to do about it.

Getting the same error. Just installed Trial Version of Outlook 2010 and noticed the message.

The error occurs when I allow Outlook to set up e-mail accounts on its own. The first try is on a encrypted connection which fails, then the option to use an unencrypted connection succeeds. The error happens during the encrypted attempts and occurs 3 times in succession.

My POP3 server just uses a password, so it seems the attempts to use a encrypted protocol is involved. But maybe someone who understands more about how it works will know what type of scenarios might generate such an error.

Also I notice if I let Outlook set up the accounts, it will succeed using the incorrect server name. Mine are pop-server instead of just pop, but Outlook sets it up anyway. But e-mail access does not generate the error even using the wrong server name.

In my case it was Skype. Using the Fiddler2 web debugger, every time Skype started up I saw lots of secure connections from my Skype client via a tunnel to various Microsoft sites. They looked OK, there seemed to be no connection errors, but at every Skype startup I had between 3 to 6 Schannel errors.

I uninstalled Skype and do not have the problem anymore. I do use Outlook 2010, but do not connect via VPN to a business Exchange account.

I am getting the same error. I traced it back to first appearing on 14 Nov 2013 and no occurrences during the 3 years prior to that time. I had several Microsoft updates occur on 13 Nov 2013 and I suspect one of those modified something that is causing this error to occur. I am looking at those updates to see if any of them might have caused this problem.

I am using OUTLOOK 2010 and have been for quite awhile without errors until Nov 2013.

I stated getting this schannel 36888 error that just shuts off my pc with no warning as shown below. I do not use outlook and I tried the TLS unchecking with no luck . The fix it with the browser didn't work, and I can't get a try and get a blue screen if the machine doesn't reboot it just shuts off and stays off until I power back on. The error started this week, I just tried uninstalling Skype as that is on constantly. I will respond if that fixes it.

"A fatal alert was generated and sent to the remote endpoint. This may result in termination of the connection. The TLS protocol defined fatal error code is 43. The Windows SChannel error state is 252."

I Have the same Problem ID 36888 - 10.

We use SBS 2011 and the probleme only appears via vpn.

If you open outlook, it tries to connect to the server, but this doesn´t work and the error appears in the event display.

Solution:

In Outlook disable the option "Encode data between Outlook and Exchange" solve this problem, but this couldn´t be right.

I think it has someting to do with the ssl-encoding.
