Schannel Error 36888

I am getting this Schannel Error 36888 over and over and over again. There NOTHING listed on the help site about it. I have no idea what it is, but my computer is crashing over and over again. I don't know if this is the reason, but it seems to be the most frequent event listed in the event viewer.

I restored my computer to the image I made after the initial installation back in July, and did this only after going back to restore points to 12/6/09.

It does not seem to be a Windows O/S issue or else these various restores would have fixed it. Nothing else has changed though. No new hardware added and any external devices I did have connected, I have disconnected to rule them out. All I have connected is one external hard drive (which I need for my backups) and the keyboard and mouse.

The computer goes to a blue screen, usually after doing something like opening Windows Explorer or something like that. Just sitting idle, it doesn't seem to happen. Or at least not as often.

What is Schannel Error 36888. I found posting on different sites but none that are conclusive or tell me what EXCATLY to do about it.

Getting the same error.  Just installed Trial Version of Outlook 2010 and noticed the message.

The error occurs when I allow Outlook to set up e-mail accounts on its own.  The first try is on a encrypted connection which fails, then the option to use an unencrypted connection succeeds.  The error happens during the encrypted attempts and occurs 3 times in succession.

My POP3 server just uses a password, so it seems the attempts to use a encrypted protocol is involved.  But maybe someone who understands more about how it works will know what type of scenarios might generate such an error.

Also I notice if I let Outlook set up the accounts, it will succeed using the incorrect server name.  Mine are pop-server instead of just pop, but Outlook sets it up anyway.  But e-mail access does not generate the error even using the wrong server name.

    I see now 'Schannel 36888' has returned on to the computer's system log while I was not watching. 

    The event error started again, beginning on the day I changed Internet Service Providers - Is that odd?

    Meanwhile, today, this happened only after powering on computer and connecting to network. I didn't look in Event Viewer. I checked my Anti-Virus. Event error now coincides with high processor activity on LSASS version 6.1.7601.19045.

    Also getting a handful of DistributedCOM oleres.dll Event Error 10010 did not register within the required timeout.

    **csiPost:**sfc/scannow does nothing these days. TrustedInstaller wcp.dll version 0.0.0.6 fails to start with "No startup processing". wcp.dll 0.0.0.5 was a better workhorse(?), and actually reported file errors.

    Not the same sleep issue as me.

    AFAIK having Skype installed is the other known cause for sChannel errors besides using Outlook.

    I don't think it has anything to do with insomnia issues, which is my problem on MS Account.

    Once I switched to local account in 'Change PC Settings/Accounts' it was fixed & stays on local.

    Also my SChannel error state was always 20 and I haven't had one since August, & oddly enough

    I cannot find any of the older ones that I documented earlier in this thread, Strange.

    Your issue is quite different & I have not read about others experiencing that one.

    but it's only about failure to auto sleep, not manual initiation, or the wrong results of it.

    For me I had to change audio drivers first then detach M$ account to auto sleep.

    For others it's servnet & homegroups causing it.  Do you have a clean sfc/scannow ?

    Just a quick question for you, still on this thread- I have the same issue with my computer sleeping instead of actually shutting down when I choose Shut Down- so I disabled Fast Startup.  I do have Skype, but never activated it, so I wouldn't have guessed the two were connected, how did you figure that out?

    Also, my M$ account keeps coming back even though I remove it from Credential Manager, and even TURNED OFF Credential Mgmt.  Ho did you rid you machine of it?  Very curious-

    Please repost your issue in the link I posted above, I renewed the question, not accepting disabling security as any solution.  This thread has gone on for years and has gotten off topic in many ways, so let them know your thoughts in the new thread, might help, just FYI :)
