Schannel Error 36888

I am getting this Schannel Error 36888 over and over and over again. There NOTHING listed on the help site about it. I have no idea what it is, but my computer is crashing over and over again. I don't know if this is the reason, but it seems to be the most frequent event listed in the event viewer.

I restored my computer to the image I made after the initial installation back in July, and did this only after going back to restore points to 12/6/09.

It does not seem to be a Windows O/S issue or else these various restores would have fixed it. Nothing else has changed though. No new hardware added and any external devices I did have connected, I have disconnected to rule them out. All I have connected is one external hard drive (which I need for my backups) and the keyboard and mouse.

The computer goes to a blue screen, usually after doing something like opening Windows Explorer or something like that. Just sitting idle, it doesn't seem to happen. Or at least not as often.

What is Schannel Error 36888. I found posting on different sites but none that are conclusive or tell me what EXCATLY to do about it.

Getting the same error.  Just installed Trial Version of Outlook 2010 and noticed the message.

The error occurs when I allow Outlook to set up e-mail accounts on its own.  The first try is on a encrypted connection which fails, then the option to use an unencrypted connection succeeds.  The error happens during the encrypted attempts and occurs 3 times in succession.

My POP3 server just uses a password, so it seems the attempts to use a encrypted protocol is involved.  But maybe someone who understands more about how it works will know what type of scenarios might generate such an error.

Also I notice if I let Outlook set up the accounts, it will succeed using the incorrect server name.  Mine are pop-server instead of just pop, but Outlook sets it up anyway.  But e-mail access does not generate the error even using the wrong server name.

    I think it is fixed for me as my last one was 8/14/2015.

    I can't verify 1 & 2 as I only use FF Nightly, a BETA, as IE's too buggy.

    I was getting 36887 and 36885 as well - much less frequently, now both gone as well.

    I'm down to 1 unexplained log entry with over 6 a day of...

    10010 dCOM: The server {1B1F472E-3221-4826-97DB-2C2324D389AE} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

    the only other prevelant one is monthly...

    513 CAPI2: Cryptographic Services failed while processing the OnIdentity() call in the System Writer Object.

    Other than those, time service & update failures my box is 95% stable & only bluescreens every 2 months or so with page fault, interger, or memory related errors even though I've got 12g of CL7.

    The messages disappear, but the issue does not. I am not sure that that turning a blind eye is a good idea. I'd rather know there is something wrong.

    I encountered this problem from last spring on Internet Explorer 11, and from this site, I was recommended to switch off the TSL/SSL options. By doing so, I was unable to use any sites that used a HTTPS/: connection -> while that was major inconvenient, it did "prove" to me that this was the problem. Switch back on TLS/SSL and I can visit those sites again, but the event log was loaded with Schannel Error 36888.

    Since posting my earlier question on this site, I have discovered a few more important "finds", if other people can verify these:

    1. In IE11, when signing on to Yahoo I get four Schannel Error 36888. (Might need to log out again to get all four). And I get six with log in/out of Ebay. Then if I check the address bar of these sites, then they are indeed https URLs.
    2. If I switch browser to Lunascape six, and use the Trident engine option, then the same errors occur. However, if I use this Lunascape browser , but switch to the Gecko engine option, then the error messages stop when visiting https:/ pages. Can anyone explain that? Is it the Trident Engine that is the problem, or is it Trident detecting the problem? Eventually I discovered that None of the browsers I used, other that the Trident-based Internet Explorer browsers, could reproduce the problem we are collectively experiencing here.
    3. While Error 36888 drowns out the Event Viewer message box, in the background, I also discovered less frequent 36887 and 36885 Schannel messages. Does anyone find these?

    Also I find that Windows 10/Internet Edge has dropped the Trident Engine in favour of HTML 5 code, and has also replaced TLS with a token-based protocol, that had been drafted up and agreed between Microsoft and Google.  Did I read that right-,, is this a significant clue down the grapevine as to what is happening?

    I Have one computer that is just used as a front end for some established games. No Outlook, Office, or Skype  on this computer and I get the schannel error. I unchecked TLS, don't need it on this computer, and the schannel errors went away.

    If you have email on a computer, you should NOT uncheck TLS.
