Schannel Error 36888

I am getting this Schannel Error 36888 over and over and over again. There NOTHING listed on the help site about it. I have no idea what it is, but my computer is crashing over and over again. I don't know if this is the reason, but it seems to be the most frequent event listed in the event viewer.

I restored my computer to the image I made after the initial installation back in July, and did this only after going back to restore points to 12/6/09.

It does not seem to be a Windows O/S issue or else these various restores would have fixed it. Nothing else has changed though. No new hardware added and any external devices I did have connected, I have disconnected to rule them out. All I have connected is one external hard drive (which I need for my backups) and the keyboard and mouse.

The computer goes to a blue screen, usually after doing something like opening Windows Explorer or something like that. Just sitting idle, it doesn't seem to happen. Or at least not as often.

What is Schannel Error 36888. I found posting on different sites but none that are conclusive or tell me what EXCATLY to do about it.

Getting the same error.  Just installed Trial Version of Outlook 2010 and noticed the message.

The error occurs when I allow Outlook to set up e-mail accounts on its own.  The first try is on a encrypted connection which fails, then the option to use an unencrypted connection succeeds.  The error happens during the encrypted attempts and occurs 3 times in succession.

My POP3 server just uses a password, so it seems the attempts to use a encrypted protocol is involved.  But maybe someone who understands more about how it works will know what type of scenarios might generate such an error.

Also I notice if I let Outlook set up the accounts, it will succeed using the incorrect server name.  Mine are pop-server instead of just pop, but Outlook sets it up anyway.  But e-mail access does not generate the error even using the wrong server name.

    I'm with Albert, I would rather be bothered by the warnings, than the consequences of ignoring all of them. If you don't know somethings wrong how can you address it. Like we are here.

    Even if we cant fix Micro$oft's O/S or servers (which as from other posts, I glean is the problem) causing this & a few of my other error/warnings what can we do?

    Though Outlook 2010 (no m$ surprise) is the only thing on that above list that I use, or have installed,

    I have read that secure web sites are also a cause, but have not verified that.

    I'm too busy fixing HUGE Windows 8.1 pro 64 O/S problems to track down minor issues such as this.

    And since MS tech has abandoned me, after 6 techs having some 14 hours of remotely accessing my machine for other issues, I am here & on other forums researching these many lingering things.   But...

    Considering my O/S is also changing saved .jpgs to ones from other folders - sChannel is REALLY Minor,

    considering I could inadvertantly send my boss a porn image instead of the work site photo requested!

    The messages disappear, but the issue does not. I am not sure that that turning a blind eye is a good idea. I'd rather know there is something wrong.

    CHANNEL warning with code 10 appearance means that Secure Channel security provider encountered unrecognized message from remote.  It seems they pop only during network activity, most likely some communication error or protocol misalignment. For me it appears if I access https pages  or sync Outlook.

    It appears ONLY if logging if enabled. By default logging level is 0 (disabled) or registry key may be not existing at all (it exist in XP). Some update or software introduced that key into registry, forcing logging messages, I suspect that was firewall or ISS.

    this is path to this key:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL]

    "EventLogging"=dword:00000000

    0 - would stop logging,

    1 -allows logging of errors,

    2 - warnings,

    4 - various information

    1. Start Registry Editor. To do this, click Start button and click Run (or press WIn+R), type regedit32, and then click OK.
    2. Locate the following key in the registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL

    1. On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:

    Value Name: EventLogging

    Data Type:  REG_DWORD

    Value: 0 

    1. Restart machine. You shouldn't get those messages anymore

    As of source of those errors ,  Skype,  Chrome, IE11, Outlook 2003, Outlook2010 apparently generate them.

    You are so full of it . This just shuts down all email programs and does nothing to fix this issue.
