UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK since we've got the ball rolling here, I am editing this to better reflect what is going on. The below links are just a few out of hundreds of post you will find on the internet about this Aero Lag. Some offer workarounds and some don't. I just Googled Aero Lag and this was from the first page.

If you have the same problem, please provide:

  1. What type of graphics card you have.
  2. What kind of drivers are you using (Win7 preinstalled or manufacturer's drivers)
  3. Was your version of Win7 an update or clean install.
  4. What motherboard you have.

From the sounds of it, Microsoft is looking for a fix.

I also ask for a forum admin to make this a sticky as many people are experiencing this problem.

**Have solved my problem withAeor lag.**Reinstall Windows 7 U64 twice with new/old driver.

Replaced Gforce 8800GTX with Gforce GTX480.

Have spent many days on this problem without a solution.

But here is a very simple solution that works for me.

I removed the USB extension cablefor my CreativeHS-1200WirelessUSB Gaming Headset.

Aero lags when Iused USB extension cable and headset charging.

Without USB extension cable, everything is fine.

So it think itis a voltagedrop in the USB extension cable,causes the system to lag. ?

    Just for the record, here's my configuration:

    Video card: RADEON 5850

    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4 (rev. 1.0) AMD 790X + SB750 Chipset

    Driver: Catalyst 9.10 (Oct 22, 2009)

    OS: Windows 7 Home Premium x64. Clean install on two SSDs in RAID0.

    Neither the default Win7 drivers, Cat 9.9 or 9.10 made a difference--Aero lag is still present. By lag I mean that slight frame-skip just before a new program window fully opens, and then the same skip right after you click the window close button (there is no lag maximizing and minimizing windows, I swear to you).

    Games and HD content run smoothly.

    I have a 6.7 WEI, with the lowest score represented by my CPU (Phenom II x3). My Graphics and Gaming Graphics are both scored at 7.7. I'm not over-clocked and I have no multi-step OC booster or similar option in my BIOS (even when I hit Ctrl-F1 in the BIOS to get the advanced options). I'm running at 60Hz refresh, which is the default for my LCD.

    I also have the lastest southbridge and RAID drivers from AMD's site.

    Not really sure where to go from here! Let's keep this one alive until it's solved since I know a lot of people with the same issue.

    Well the drivers I installed were from the NVIDIA website, I fixed my post to reflect that change.

    Found something else out last time it lagged (5 minutes ago). Audio was fine, until I moved the mouse. Then when I stopped moving the mouse, the audio lag went away, then I moved it, and BAM! The lag was there. Then I stopped, and the lag stopped, then I moved it again and the lag reapeared. Now I know this is only one part of the lag, which is audio. I was unable to wittness any graphics lag since I had no video playing.

    1. NVIDIA GTS 250
    2. Version 8.16.11.9107 from NVIDIA website (Win7 64-Bit drivers)
    3. Clean install (Twice) (Win7 64-Bit)
    4. Asus M4A79T-Deluxe

    Hmm. What's your audio chipset and driver version?

    I have an Audigy 2 and experience no audio stutter at all.

    A thought occurs. Could this be a resource allocation issue? IRQ management possibly? Or latency issues perhaps? Could Windows 7's improved hardware management have a bit of a glitch? Taking a look at your IRQ allocations in Device Manager could be worth while. What shares with what, with particular mind to vid card and sound card, could be interesting to see.
