original title:  Aero Lag when opening and closing windows in Windows 7

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK since we've got the ball rolling here, I am editing this to better reflect what is going on. The below links are just a few out of hundreds of post you will find on the internet about this Aero Lag. Some offer workarounds and some don't. I just Googled Aero Lag and this was from the first page.

If you have the same problem, please provide:

  1. What type of graphics card you have.
  2. What kind of drivers are you using (Win7 preinstalled or manufacturer's drivers)
  3. Was your version of Win7 an update or clean install.
  4. What motherboard you have.

From the sounds of it, Microsoft is looking for a fix.

I also ask for a forum admin to make this a sticky as many people are experiencing this problem.

**Have solved my problem withAeor lag.**Reinstall Windows 7 U64 twice with new/old driver.

Replaced Gforce 8800GTX with Gforce GTX480.

Have spent many days on this problem without a solution.

But here is a very simple solution that works for me.

I removed the USB extension cablefor my CreativeHS-1200WirelessUSB Gaming Headset.

Aero lags when Iused USB extension cable and headset charging.

Without USB extension cable, everything is fine.

So it think itis a voltagedrop in the USB extension cable, causes the system to lag. ?

Hope it can help.

Sincerely,

Dennis Psilander

    Hi!

I and lot´s of others who now is trying and enjoying windows 7 have this common problem with Aero opening/closing animation.

When I close/open windows, there seems to be a slight lag, i.e. it doesn't close smoothly immediately, it sort of stumbles a little then closes.

I didn't have this problem in Vista.

Any clue of what to do or the problem?

    Best regards

    Christofer

    My specs are:

    AMD Athlon64 6000+ 3.11Ghz dual-core

    4gb corsair DDR2 800Mhz

    ATI Radeon 4850 1Gb

    Hi StoffeCoffe,

Thanks for posting to Getting Ready for Windows 7,

Since you are experiencing this issue while using the Aero features, have you verified what the Customer Experience Rating is for your video card?  Click StartORB / Right Click Computer and select Properties.

In the Window review the information showing Customer Experience Rating - you will see the overall rating listed in this Window.  Jot that information down to post it into the forum threads.  Click the customer experience link and list the rating it shows for the individual components, for example, CPU, Video, Memory, etc.  into the forum.

Have you downloaded and installed the latest driver for your Video card?

If not, please install the latest driver for your video card from the Video Card Manufacturer's website.

Please let us know if there is any further assistance needed involving this issue.

    Regards,

    Thanks for quick response!

My index ratings from windows are:

    Processor: 6,2

    Memory: 7,1

    Graphics: 6,5

    Gaming graphics: 6,5

    Primary hard disk: 5,5

I have the latest video drivers from ATI, who already have drivers for windows 7.

Minimize/Maximize windows works perfectly and everything else. Just that problem with open/close animation.

Perhaps a small issue but really annoying.

    Hope this information helps.

    Grateful for your responses

    Regards

    Christofer

    Hello, StoffeCoffe

You can try a Clean Boot to help identify if an application is interfering. Go to Start, type “msconfig.exe” in the search box and press enter, go to the Services tab and check the Hide all Microsoft services option and choose Disable All. Next go to the Startup tab and choose Disable All. Restart and test if the problem persists. If it does, you can disable half of the services/startup items at a time to narrow down the offending program.

To return to a normal startup check the Normal Startup item on the General tab of the msconfig utility.

Let us know if this helps.
